Description[]

A detailed history of New Rotterdam can be seen onCNT's showA History of Liberty City inGrand Theft Auto IV. The colony was established by theBritish explorerHoratio Humboldt onSeptember 4, 1609. In 1647, the British East India Company hired a general named Gloria Hole to return civility and productivity to the colony.

On August 27, 1664, English warships attacked New Rotterdam, successfully claiming the colony and renaming it Liberty City. However, the Rotterdam name lives on in the form of theRotterdam Hill neighborhood in theBroker borough of Liberty City, and theRotterdam Tower in theAlgonquin borough.

New Rotterdam is based on the former Dutch colonial town ofNew Amsterdam, which became the present dayNew York City.
