Trivia[]
- The nickname "Father Ned" may be taken from the titular character of the TV show,Father Ted.
- Ned Burner's name may also be a reference to real-life media mogul andCNN founderTed Turner.
- Ned Burner's character might have been inspired byStephen Glass, a former journalist forThe New Republic until his firing in 1998. Like Burner, Glass was a corrupt reporter finding sensationalist fame by publishing fabricated stories. Unlike Burner, Glass did not engineer his stories to such an extreme manner, only doing so for one story. Glass's scandal would later be dramatized in the 2003 filmShattered Glass.
