TheCombine Harvester is a vehicle featured inGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas and cut fromGrand Theft Auto V.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
The Combine Harvester appears to be primarily based on theCase IH 1660, given the similar offset cab and the placement of the unloading auger (the long pipe where all the harvested grain crops are unloaded).
The Combine Harvester, as the name implies, is designed as a large farming vehicle intended to harvest grain crops. The front of the vehicle is easily distinguishable by its wide revolving combine head with five rakes mounted on four rotating supports, which move as the Combine Harvester is in motion. Directly behind the combine head is the large feederhouse connected to the chassis.
On the frontal area of the main body, the vehicle makes use of small guard rails on the front end and an access ladder on the left-hand side, while the cabin is located on the left half and features black frames, a single access door and a left-mounted headlight. The right half is mostly occupied by a large vent and features a rear view mirror and dual headlights (with the upper one being functional). The top of the main body features an exhaust on the front right quarter, a block-shaped tank in the middle and the unloading auger on the left that extends further ahead of the body. The rear area mostly consists of the engine bay with a large vent in the center, as well as an unusable ladder on the right-hand side. While the vehicle lacks any physical rear light, a small red light can be seen on the bottom of the unusable ladder when braking or during night time.
The vehicle is only available in a maroon color, with the cabin roof and end of the unloading auger finished in a yellowish color (actually being part of the vehicle, as it lacks an actual color in the files). It has wheels of varying sizes: two small wheels behind the combine head, two large wheels on the front axle and two medium-sized ones on the rear axle.
Grand Theft Auto V[]

A vehicle similar to the Combine Harvester was originally intended to appear inGrand Theft Auto V, but was dropped before release. The only evidence of its existence is a picture found in theYellow Jack Inn[1], and apolice scanner audio file, where one of the 96 vehicle category quotes is "combine", matching with the vehicle's file name inGTA San Andreas.[2]
Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
Being primarily purposed for farming, the Combine Harvester's wide width and heavy weight, coupled with a rear-wheel steering configuration, make it difficult to control, navigate on populated roads, and store in regular garages. The player can efficiently cut down small trees in certain places, thanks to the vehicle's wide head and the heavy weight. One characteristic of the Combine Harvester is that the chassis adjusts by itself with the terrain while the main body remains level, allowing it to handle moderate inclines.
A unique ability of the Combine Harvester is its capability to dismemberpedestrians when the player runs them over, and then discharge the body parts and gore/blood through the unloading auger towards the rear. Every time the player dismembers pedestrians, a crushing sound is heard. However,CJ himself cannot be dismembered or gored by a moving Combine Harvester. Goringpolice is a quick way to earn highwanted levels.
When the player has awanted level, driving the Combine Harvester has an advantage, as the door is locked when the player is driving it and therefore, it is impossible for the police to bust the player. However, due to the combine harvester's fragility, doing this at wanted levels above two stars is not recommended, as it can easily be destroyed using firearms.
The vehicle is powered by a large diesel engine located at the rear, coupled to a 5-speed gearbox in a rear-engine, all-wheel-drive layout. It shares the sound with theFlatbed, theBarracks and theEnforcer.

Prominent Appearances in Gameplay[]
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
The Combine Harvester makes its first appearance in the mission "Body Harvest", whenCarl Johnson is asked to steal one byThe Truth while it is operating atThe Farm. Once obtained, CJ has to get out of the farm with said vehicle while encountering angry survivalists on the way.
In the mission "Wu Zi Mu", a Combine Harvester is an obstacle while crossingBlueberry Acres.
Locations[]
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
Upon completion of the mission "Body Harvest", Combine Harvesters will appear all overSan Andreas.
- The vehicle can be exclusively found in farmland, specificallyBlueberry Acres,The Farm andFlint Range. At day, the harvesters will be seen operated by a driver and moving along a predetermined route in the fields; at night, the harvesters are parked in the fields.
- Two can be found atHelena Wankstein's Farm in Flint Range, although they are difficult to obtain because they are constantly moving around a crop.
Almost all encountered Combine Harvesters, especially those at night, are locked, making the vehicle very difficult to steal. In order to obtain one, one may shoot a Combine Harvester's driver in the head, killing them and resulting in the driver falling out and leaving the vehicle's door open for the player to steal, although not always successful as the door will close back (even though the door looks open) if the vehicle is touched by the player. Using a melee weapon and hitting the vehicle to make the driver get out will also work.
Trivia[]
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
- At one pointduring development, the Combine Harvester had a green body color, no stepbars into the driver cab, and a less detailed combine head. It was very similar to theJohn Deere W70 combine, though retaining the unloading auger on the left side.[3].
- It is impossible to placeSatchel Charges on the vehicle, as they pass straight through it.
