AfterJoseph Brody is critically injured during the maleMUTO's escape fromJanjira, he and his sonFord are airlifted to theSaratoga withVivienne Graham andIshiro Serizawa aboard aMonarch helicopter.
Unfortunately, Joseph dies before the helicopter reaches the aircraft carrier. Once onboard, Ford learns more about the monster that killed hismother and father, and of Ishiro's knowledge ofanother mysterious monster.
After a day or so, Ford departs forHonolulu aboard another Monarch helicopter, as part of a journey to return home to his family inSan Francisco. Shortly afterward, a squadron of Naval F-18 Hornets and helicopters lift off from theSaratoga, bound forHawaii, after they learned of aRussian submarine that was under attack off the coast of Oahu.
Afterward, the aircraft carrier follows Godzilla to San Francisco but stays out at sea to avoid being struck by the MUTOs' electromagnetic pulses.

- Early concept art forGodzilla suggests that Godzilla would attack an aircraft carrier during an early version of the film's plot.
- This may have been recycled into the carrier fight scene inGodzilla vs. Kong.
- Multiple ships owned by the US Navy have possessed the nameSaratoga, with the most recent aircraft carrier bearing the name to have the code CV-60. The US Navy has yet to reach the CVN-88 code, currently up to CVN-82 in terms of planned aircraft carriers.
- The Saratoga is also mentioned in the script of TriStar's unmade Godzilla film.
- TheSaratoga is also used in theGodzilla: Planet of the Monsters prequel novel,Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse.
