I just rebased it against master, resolving the conflicts from 0.36.

@tiangolo Feel free to just offer direction if there is anything you don't like about the changes I made, want additional tests, or anything else; I'm happy to implement.

I wanted to release a previous version with the other PRs that were ready, to make sure those features/changes are also compatible with previous versions of Pydantic, in case anyone is stuck in an older version.
