stdlib-js/string-substring-after-last

About stdlib...

We believe in a future in which the web is a preferred environment for numerical computation. To help realize this future, we've built stdlib. stdlib is a standard library, with an emphasis on numerical and scientific computation, written in JavaScript (and C) for execution in browsers and in Node.js.

The library is fully decomposable, being architected in such a way that you can swap out and mix and match APIs and functionality to cater to your exact preferences and use cases.

When you use stdlib, you can be absolutely certain that you are using the most thorough, rigorous, well-written, studied, documented, tested, measured, and high-quality code out there.

To join us in bringing numerical computing to the web, get started by checking us out onGitHub, and please considerfinancially supporting stdlib. We greatly appreciate your continued support!

substringAfterLast

NPM versionBuild StatusCoverage Status

Return the part of a string after the last occurrence of a specified substring.

Installation

npm install @stdlib/string-substring-after-last

Alternatively,

  • To load the package in a website via ascript tag without installation and bundlers, use theES Module available on theesm branch (seeREADME).
  • If you are using Deno, visit thedeno branch (seeREADME for usage intructions).
  • For use in Observable, or in browser/node environments, use theUniversal Module Definition (UMD) build available on theumd branch (seeREADME).
  • To use as a general utility for the command line, install the correspondingCLI package globally.

Thebranches.md file summarizes the available branches and displays a diagram illustrating their relationships.

To view installation and usage instructions specific to each branch build, be sure to explicitly navigate to the respective README files on each branch, as linked to above.

Usage

varsubstringAfterLast=require('@stdlib/string-substring-after-last');

substringAfterLast( str, search[, fromIndex] )

Returns the part of a string after the last occurrence of a specified substring.

varstr='beep boop';varout=substringAfterLast(str,'b');// returns 'oop'out=substringAfterLast(str,'o');// returns 'p'

By default, the search starts at the end of the string and proceeds backwards to the beginning. To start the search at a specified index, specify an integer for thefromIndex argument.

varstr='beep boop';varout=substringAfterLast(str,'b',3);// returns 'eep boop'

Notes

  • If a substring is not present in a provided string, the function returns an empty string.
  • If provided an empty substring, the function returns an empty string.

Examples

varsubstringAfterLast=require('@stdlib/string-substring-after-last');varstr='To be, or not to be, that is the question.';varout=substringAfterLast(str,', ');// returns 'that is the question.'out=substringAfterLast(str,'to be');// returns ', that is the question.'out=substringAfterLast(str,'question.');// returns ''out=substringAfterLast(str,'xyz');// returns ''out=substringAfterLast(str,'');// returns ''

CLI

Installation

To use as a general utility, install the CLI package globally

npm install -g @stdlib/string-substring-after-last-cli

Usage

Usage: substring-after-last [options] --search=<string> [<string>]Options: -h, --help Print this message. -V, --version Print the package version. --search string Search string. --from-index int Index at which to start the search. --split sep Delimiter for stdin data. Default: '/\\r?\\n/'.

Notes

  • If the split separator is aregular expression, ensure that thesplit option is either properly escaped or enclosed in quotes.

    # Not escaped...$echo -n$'foo\nbar\nbaz'| substring-after-last --search a --split /\r?\n/# Escaped...$echo -n$'foo\nbar\nbaz'| substring-after-last --search a --split /\\r?\\n/
  • The implementation ignores trailing delimiters.

Examples

$ substring-after-last abcdefg --search defg

To use as astandard stream,

$echo -n$'bar\nbaz'| substring-after-last --search baraz

By default, when used as astandard stream, the implementation assumes newline-delimited data. To specify an alternative delimiter, set thesplit option.

$echo -n'bar\tbaz'| substring-after-last --search b --split'\t'araz
