This is split-out 3/N from#1264 to improve reviewability.

This adds an About section that discusses the value-add and possible use-cases.

Hm.. I spent much more time on the phrasing of these paragraphs than I'd like to admit 😆 But I think, that the newly written paragraphs are motivating enough so that people use our library.
