Well, that's one way to do this ;) I think it would be cleaner to put the documentation intobytes and havetostring reference it.

Could add#4886 to these. |
added to "Changing kind of array" with the other as* functionsClosesnumpygh-4890
ignore cscope and gnu global files
The function returns bytes not strings. This is relevant in python3.
Commit494abcf (ENH: speed-up minimum, maximum and xor for bool dtype)reworked numpy/core/src/umath/loops.h to be autogenerated at build time, but forgot to update .gitignore.Fix it, so that the now-autogenerated loops.h do not constantly show asuntracked in git status output.
There is no NPY_ITEM_LISTPICKLE - it was NPY_LIST_PICKLE from thebeginning - fromc355157 (Expand usage of hasobject to be a flag-likeentity keeping track of how the data-type should be used.)The documentation in the same rst file even uses the correct identifierlater, so it was just a typo/thinko.
In case we might want it up in future
"Raise an assertion" was changed to "Raises an AssertionError" to clarify thatan exception named AssertionError will be raised.Closesnumpygh-4884[ci skip]

a bunch of documentation updates and a set of tests I had lying around in one of my local branches for the 1.9 branch
