Steps to reproduce:
- Ensure a non-English locale is available on your system. In my case (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS), I had to do
sudo locale-gen fr_FR.UTF-8 && sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales export LANGUAGE=fr_FR.UTF-8export LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8python -c "import git; git.Repo('path/to/a/repo').remote().fetch()"
