Important notice

Starting on June 2023,rgdal,rgeos andmaptools R packagesentered amaintenance mode (meaning no new updates). Coincidentally,sp andraster packages are now superseded by the more modernalternativessf, stars andterra. This means that themeteolandclasses, which are based onsp, need to be updated to deal with thesechanges in the R-spatial ecosystem.

Starting with version 2.0.0 ofmeteoland (February 2023) allfunctions, methods and classes based on or using thesp, raster andrgdal package were soft-deprecated.

Since ver. 2.1.0, these functions, methods and classes have beenremoved from the package

See theTidymeteolandvignette for more info about this changes.

Introduction

With the aim to assist research of climatic impacts on forests, the Rpackagemeteoland provides utilities to estimate daily weathervariables at any position over complex terrains (De Cáceres et al 2018):

  • Spatial interpolation of daily weather records from meteorologicalstations.
  • Statistical correction of meteorological data series (e.g from climatemodels). Note that this functionality is deprecated starting inversion 2.0.0.
  • Multisite and multivariate stochastic weather generation. Note thatthis functionality is deprecated starting in version 2.0.0.

Package installation and documentation

Packagemeteoland can be found atCRAN, but the version in this repositorymay not be the most recent one. Latest stable versions can be downloadedand installed from GitHub as follows (packageremotes should beinstalled first):

remotes::install_github("emf-creaf/meteoland")

Detailed documentation regardingmeteoland calculation routines canbe found at (https://emf-creaf.github.io/meteolandbook/index.html).

Companion packages

Package meteospain

During the development ofmeteoland some functions to downloadweather station data from several Spanish networks were originallydeveloped. Aftermeteoland version 1.0.1, the user is recommended touse packagemeteospain, which can also be found atCRAN.Functions to download weather station data are still available inmeteoland but they have been deprecated and make internal calls tofunctions in packagemeteospain.

Packages medfate and medfateland

Packagemeteoland has been designed to provide input weather datafor simulations of forest function and dynamics via the followingpackages

  • Packagemedfate providesfunctions for simulating forest function and dynamics.
  • Packagemedfatelandextendsmedfate by allowing simulations to be performed in aspatially explicit context.

Authorship

R packagemeteoland is developed and maintained by theEcosystemModelling Facility at CREAF (Catalonia, Spain).
