Wind Glider

Wind Gliders are the primary tool that players use forGliding in mid-air through open terrain inGenshin Impact. Wind Gliders can be changed for each individualCharacter in theDressing Room. This customization is purely aesthetic and has no impact on gameplay.

Usage[]

While gliding is anotherstamina-consuming activity, it does not cost as much stamina assprinting, and is comparable to that of regularswimming. The utilization of gliders varies — often, deploying the glider can negate userFall Damage from any height (unless the player opts out of gliding in mid-air). Gliders are also used to be able to reach high areas that neither normally jumping or climbing would achieve.

Story[]

The Wind Glider was invented 2600 years ago by a retired adventurer namedLeonard. Leonard had previously attempted to scale a great mountain namedPilos Peak, but failed, and created the Wind Glider to help other explorers succeed in their endeavors.^[1] Once, a man fromSumeru named Firnas (not to be confused with the presentFirnas) realized that Wind Gliders did not follow the laws of physics, and that they relied on the blessing of theAnemo Archon to function. He attempted to construct a Wind Glider that worked through physical laws alone, but it is said that after an encounter with theDendro Archon in his dreams, Firnas came to accept that the gods' blessings are also part of the world's laws.^[2]

When theTraveler first enters the city ofMondstadt and heads up to the fountain area, they are greeted with the unlocking of the wind glider byAmber. A short quick-time tutorial is given to the player to help them learn the controls of a glider.

It is not until the questGlide With the Wind, that Amber tells the player they cannot glide (in Mondstadt, at least) without a gliding license. Regardless if the quest is done or not, however, it does not restrict the player from using a glider in any area of the game.

• Players can use the Wind Glider before unlocking it from theArchon QuestCity of Freedom inPrologue: Act I -The Outlander Who Caught the Wind by ejecting from aWaverider or using aThunder Sphere.
  • The glider used appears to beWings of First Flight.
  • Due to the limited map area before completion ofThe Outlander Who Caught the Wind, both methods require players to use other players' worlds, which is only possible after unlockingCo-Op Mode atAdventure Rank 16.
  • It was possible to use the Wind Glider in single-player mode in Version 1.6 after theMidsummer Island Adventure event ended, as all players who reachedAdventure Rank 21 could reach theGolden Apple Archipelago, which hadWaverider Waypoints.
• According to Amber, many people who are new to using gliders will learn to fly inSpringvale, since the buildings only have two or three floors.^[3]
