Character

Characters are obtainable units inGenshin Impact. They come in differentqualities, are aligned with anElement, equippable with a specificWeapon, and belong to aRegion.

How to Obtain

Characters are primarily obtained by performingWishes usingIntertwined Fates orAcquaint Fates. TheseWishing Items can be:

• Purchased withPrimogems.
• Earned fromEvents andQuests.
• Exchanged withMasterless Starglitter ×5 each in thePaimon's Bargains shop.
• Exchanged for a monthly limit withMasterless Stardust ×75 each in the Paimon's Bargains shop.

Other ways to obtain characters include:

  • The Traveler is the only character at the start of the game, who cannot be obtained elsewhere.

  • The Wonderland Manekins are obtained by progressing through this mode. Both versions are obtained, but one of them must be picked and customized in order to progress, while the other Manekin that wasn't picked can be customized later.
• Aloy was obtained throughMail from September 2021 to November 2021:
  • PlayStation: September 1, 2021 to October 13, 2021
  • PC and Mobile: October 13, 2021 to November 24, 2021

Progression

Leveling

Characters gainCharacter EXP primarily by usingCharacter EXP Materials, as well as negligible amounts of experience for defeating monsters.

The Archon Quests in the Prologue -Wanderer's Trail, Act I -The Outlander Who Caught the Wind and Act II -For a Tomorrow Without Tears of thePrologue also reward Character EXP.

Ascensions

Characters can be ascended to their next ascension phase once they reach their current max level and the player has the requiredAdventure Rank. Characters can be ascended up to 8 times (up to Lv. 100).

To ascend a character, go to the character screen and click on theAscend button at the bottom-right of the Character Menu. A box will appear, showing whichCharacter Level-Up Materials,Character Ascension Materials,Local Specialties, andCharacter and Weapon Enhancement Materials are needed, and theMora cost required to ascend the character. If there is an item missing, click on it to see various ways to obtain it. See each character's page for the materials needed for each ascension.

Upon reaching the 1st and 4th ascension, the character unlocks their 1st and 2nd passive combat talents respectively. The 3rd passive utility talent (available to all characters, except theTraveler) is already unlocked without any ascensions.

On the 2nd ascension, the character gains a special flat bonus attribute boost, either for one of their base attributes (e.g., theTraveler gains a bonus to their ATK value) or a special attribute (e.g.,Ningguang gains aGeo DMG Bonus whileLisa gains an Elemental Mastery bonus). This bonus further increases upon the 3rd, 5th, and 6th ascension.

Ascending characters to their 1st, 3rd, and 5th phase will reward the player with oneAcquaint Fate.

Ascending characters to their 7th and 8th ascensions require oneMasterless Stella Fortuna and two Masterless Stella Fortuna respectively. The character's level will instantly increase to the next level cap upon ascension.

Talents

Most characters have a total of 3Combat Talents and 3Passive Talents. Combat Talents, which includeNormal Attack,Elemental Skill, andElemental Burst, and can be leveled from Lv. 1 to Lv. 10, while Passive Talents, which include1st Ascension Passive,4th Ascension Passive,Utility Passive, cannot be leveled. Increasing the level can increase the scaling and effects of Combat Talents.

Constellations

Each character has a total of 6Constellations, which are similar to their PassiveTalents and increase the effectiveness of the character or add new capabilities.

In order to unlock each Constellation of a character, a player must use aStella Fortuna for that specific character. Players can obtain a character's Stella Fortuna by wishing a duplicate of the character inWishes or buying the character fromPaimon's Bargains. TheTraveler's Constellations are unique in that they are unlocked not through the above systems, but throughArchon Quests,Adventure RankRewards (Anemo only), by offeringOculi toStatue of The Seven (Electro,Dendro,Hydro) andSouvenir Shops instead.

When receiving a Stella Fortuna for a 5-Star character already at their maximum Constellation level, aMasterless Stella Fortuna is given instead which can be used to ascend any character to their 7th and 8th ascensions.
