He was born in Fayrūza nearḤimṣ, and studied atTaw Mim Simkath, graduating in 1934. He studied Syriac underIsḥāq Armalah andQarabashī. He was the principal of the ʿĀmūda school, taught in Raʾs al-ʿAyn, and co-founded a school in his village.
He wrote for a number of periodicals includingḤdonoyutho Suryoyto (Buenos Aires, ed. Farīd Nuzhā) andLeshono d-Umtho (Beirut, ed. Ibrahim Haqwerdi). His compositions include a number of poems. He translated from Arabic Muʾayyid al-Dīn al-Ṭaghraʾī’sLāmiyyat al-ʿajam (published in Munūfar Barṣūm), a short poem by Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) titled ‘Clouds and Waves’, and Pierre Corneille’s French poemLe Cid.
