Introduction

This manual documents the internals of the GNU compilers, includinghow to port them to new targets and some information about how towrite front ends for new languages. It corresponds to the compilers(GCC)version 16.0.1. The use of the GNU compilers is documented in aseparate manual. SeeIntroduction inUsing the GNUCompiler Collection (GCC).

This manual is mainly a reference manual rather than a tutorial. Itdiscusses how to contribute to GCC (seeContributing to GCC Development), thecharacteristics of the machines supported by GCC as hosts and targets(seeGCC and Portability), and the characteristics of the languages forwhich GCC front ends are written (seeLanguage Front Ends in GCC). It thendescribes the GCC source tree structure and build system, some of theinterfaces to GCC front ends, and how support for a target system isimplemented in GCC.

Additional tutorial information is linked to fromhttps://gcc.gnu.org/readings.html.
