Very often in the world ofOne Piece, once a pirate finds a band of allies that they can call a crew, they will stick with those people until the very end, though not everyone enjoys sailing under the same flag for the whole adventure. Despite it being quite rare, there have been a few characters introduced over the course of the series who have been lucky enough to jump between multiple crews, allowing them to share all kinds of fascinating stories about their past lives to viewers and readers.

One Piece: 5 Characters Who Can Beat The God's Knights, Ranked
These One Piece have the strength needed to take down the powerful God's Knights.
Considering how wildly different all the crews are in terms of their beliefs and culture, it's also fascinating to see how these mixed experiences have impacted the pirates and how they have changed as people throughout their epic adventures. With that being said, these are the most notable characters in theOne Piecestory who are known to have been loyal members of more than one crew.
8 Jinbei
Jinbei Liked What He Saw From Luffy And Decided To Dedicate His Skills To The Straw Hats
- First Appearance: Episode 430
As a former member and eventual captain of the Sun Pirates, Jinbei was very much seen by many as the figurehead for the Fishmen. In order to try and bring some level of equality between Fishmen and humans, Jinbei accepts an invitation to become aShichibukai who would answer to the orders of the World Government. Once the Marineford War kicks off, though, Jinbei decides to jump into the fray and does all he can to protect Luffy, whom he had already heard a little bit about from Ace.
Since then, Jinbei would sporadically show up to give Luffy and the crew a helping hand every now and again, such as in Whole Cake Island, where he would fend off a barrage of Big Mom's ship so that the Straw Hats could get away. Though Jinbei first stated his interest in joining the crew during the Fishman Island arc, it wouldn't be until the Raid on Onigashima, much later in the Wano arc, that this was made official.
7 Kaido
The Mighty Yonko Was Once A Member Of The Legendary Rocks Pirates
- First Appearance: Episode 739
It can be hard to imagine Kaido ever being subordinate to a captain, considering his overwhelming presence and strength, but during the Wano arc, it's revealed that, once upon a time, there was actually someone he would answer to. In the main story, Kaido is the leader of the Beast Pirates, whose immoral dealings with Doflamingo have allowed him to create an army of monsters, thanks to his artificial Devil Fruits. Long ago, though, Kaido was just one of the severallegendary pirates who made up the Rocks crew.

These are the strongest characters to sail the seas of the One Piece world.
This explains why Kaido would come to have such a grudge against Big Mom, and also why he expressed such familiarity with Whitebeard when he first fell from the Sky Island and gave his little monologue. Kaido grew to become an absurdly powerful pirate in barely any time at all while with Rocks, so it was only inevitable that he would eventually form his own crew. Building his private army in Wano was good for a while, considering the Marines never got involved with the country, but Kaido was eventually foiled by none other than Luffy in the end.
6 Big Mom
Big Mom's Appearance May Have Changed When Switching Crews, But She's Still As Dangerous As Ever
- First Appearance: Episode 571
When Luffy and the Straw Hats first meet Big Mom in their mission to save Sanji from Whole Cake Island, they quickly realize why even the name of this ferocious Yonko is enough to send a shiver down someone's spine. As a Yonko, Big Mom is capable of crushing anyone who tries to trespass her island with herimpressive Armament Haki and Homie abilities, but after years of tea parties and sweet feasts, she's not exactly the spring chicken she once was.
When Big Mom was a member of Rocks alongside Whitebeard and Kaido, she looked like an entirely different person, with the only recognizable aspects being her bright lipstick and pink hair. Despite growing older, Big Mom is still just as dangerous as ever, and with an army of children who are all willing to fight for their mother out of fear, it's no wonder why Big Mom has earned such an infamous reputation as a pirate.
5 Whitebeard
Whitebeard Would Acquire His Kind Fatherly Persona After Separating From The Rocks Crew
- First Appearance: Episode 485
While Whitebeard would come across as a kind and compassionate father-like figure to his crew in the main story, it didn't seem that he was always this way. Though Whitebeard's time in the Rocks crew has only been shown in small flashes here and there, many fans suspect he was a lot more ruthless than he would eventually become while serving under Rocks' command.
While Kaido and Big Mom would remain stuck in their ways after the Rocks Pirates came to an end, Whitebeard would start to show a much more compassionate side, which is why his crew became so loyal to him, since he saw them all as his precious children. Whitebeard may have met his untimely demise in theMarineford War, but as a man who has changed and evolved over the course of his many adventures, he's a fascinating pirate to learn about and one whose influence can still be felt in the story today.
4 Shanks
Shanks Spent Much Of His Childhood Aboard Roger's Ship Before Eventually Becoming A Yonko
- First Appearance: Episode 1
A big reason why Shanks has become such a popular character in the series is the mystery aura that surrounds him. With the story entering its final saga, though, Oda has been dropping more hints about Shanks' past, and more specifically, his time sailing the seas as a member of Gol D. Roger's crew. Considering his age, Shanks was nowhere near as powerful as he would become, though he did still partake in the clash with the Whitebeard pirates and would even reach the One Piece treasure, though he never actually saw it because he had to take care of a sick Buggy.
Shanks may have been a mere pipsqueak on Roger's crew, but it's fair to say this is not an accurate representation of how he would be seen by the world when assuming the role of captain. Shanks has one of, if not the strongest pirate crew in the currentOne Piece main story, being comprised of some of the world's most well-known warriors, includingBen Beckman and Lucky Roux.
3 Nami
Initially, Nami Had No Intention Of Sailing The Seas With Luffy And The Crew In The Long-Term
- First Appearance: Episode 1
Nami may be known as the loyal navigator of the Straw Hats these days, but in the beginning, she had no intention of traveling with Luffy, Usopp, and Zoro, at least, not for very long. After the maliciousFishman known as Arlong took over her village and murdered her mother, Nami was forced to join Arlong's crew, with the promise that, if she could acquire enough Berries, he would let her village be free.

One Piece: 6 Popular Anime You've Heard Nami’s Voice In
Akemi Okamura, the Japanese voice of Nami in One Piece, has an extensive career of incredible anime performances.
Even after collecting enough treasure, though, Arlong went back on his word and continued to reign terror until Luffy and the Straw Hats got involved. The fact Luffy and the others were willing to put their lives on the line for someone who had just betrayed them showed Nami that this rag-tag group of pirates shouldn't be taken for granted, and from then on, she's been an invaluable member of the crew whose navigation skills and Clima-Tact weather abilities have gotten the crew out of many sticky situations.
2 Blackbeard
Blackbeard Betrayed Whitebeard's Family To Form His Own
- First Appearance: Episode 146
Blackbeard committed the worst sin possible for a pirate: backstabbing and murdering one of his fellow crewmates. As a poor orphan, Blackbeard was taken in by Whitebeard and welcomed with open arms by the rest of his crew, but one day, everything changed when the crew's doctor, Thatch, got a hold of the devastatingYami Yami no Mi fruit, which essentially allows the user to manipulate darkness itself.
After killing Thatch and running away from the crew, Blackbeard would eventually execute a plan that saw him breaking out several highly dangerous individuals from Impel Down prison, officially forming the Blackbeard Pirates. Blackbeard's defection from the Whitebeard pirates created a massive ripple effect, as it was Blackbeard's actions that caused Ace to be executed, which just goes to show how much of a genius strategist he was to have pulled all this off.
1 Kozuki Oden
Oden's Dream To Open Wano's Borders Led Him To Become A Member Of The World's Two Most Well-Known Pirate Crews
- First Appearance: Episode 960
Oden arguably has the biggest bragging rights in all ofOne Piece, and that's because he was a member of both Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger's crews. After becoming irritated at how "cramped" Wano was becoming, Oden would venture out to sea, pleading with Whitebeard to take him along afterthe mighty Yonko suddenly lands on the island. It wouldn't take long before Oden became recognized as one of Whitebeard's "sons", and a loyal member of the crew whose sword skills made him an incredibly valuable asset.
However, after the devastating clash between Whitebeard and Roger's crews, the future pirate king would ask Whitebeard if he could borrow Oden for the remainder of his adventure. The reason was that Oden was able to read Poneglyphs, and with him now on board, the crew was able to learn the truth of the Void Century, the meaning behind the mythical D signature, and even the One Piece treasure itself.
