Although One Piece is far from over, given that there are years worth of content still left to explore, what is clear is that Oda has his own plans for when he wants to endOne Piece and what to do after.

One Piece Enters The Final Saga: Oda Wants To End The Story

  • Oda Has Previously Shown Readiness To End One Piece
  • The Final Saga Will Target The Biggest Mysteries

It is no surprise to know that One Piece's creator, Eiichiro Oda, thinksOne Piece is close to its end now. Oda had previously stated that he wanted to end One Piece by 2025, but this claim proved to be shockingly off-mark, asOne Piece is only scratching the surface with Elbaf right now and there's a lot more to come. That said, at the very least, what fans know for sure is thatOne Pieceis in the Final Saga, and from here onwards, it'll be very interesting to see how Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates progress towards the grand treasure that lies ahead of them.

I will try to end One Piece in 3 years. — Oda in 2022

Logically, Luffy only has one more Road Poneglyph to look for, and then he can get to Laugh Tale and find the One Piece. With that, the Final War will be triggered as well, and fans know that theOne Piece world will turn upside down. That said, all these things take time and even though Oda is ready to endOne Piece, it won't end anytime before 2030, and that's at the bare minimum.

Oda Will End The Manga When He Wants

Oda Believes He Won't Crumble Under Pressure

If there's one thing that every singleOne Piece fan knows, it is that Shueisha and every other stakeholder inOne Piece will most definitely try their best to prolongOne Piece as much as possible. In fact, Nakano, Jump's Editor-in-Chief in 2019 clearly stated that he didn't wantOne Piece to end and last forever, just like Dragon Ball and Naruto.

This would be especially true for One Piece since it's a bigger series than both Dragon Ball and Naruto combined in Japan. One Piece has the potential to continue for decades through various forms, but Oda has vowed to not succumb to pressure. Here's whatOda had to say about when he will end One Piece:

I'll put an end to One Piece when the time has come no matter what my editors ask me to prolong the series. It depends on my decision. — Eiichiro Oda, 2018.

Can Oda Hold Out Against Shueisha?

It Will Not Be Easy

It is highly likely that Oda has plans for how to endOne Piece already, but whether or not he'll be able to end the story as he wants is another question entirely. For one, Jump could very well try to get Oda to push his ending back. They have done so before and could do it again. That said, Oda is adamant that he won't budge.

But, there's more than just that that Jump can do. Even ifOne Piece's main story ends, there is going to be no shortage for Jump to dive deep into the One Piece world and focus on the other characters through spin-offs, prequels, and sequels. Oda wouldn't necessarily oppose these either. This is simply because Oda wouldn't have to be an active part of things and could be more relaxed about their production, just as Toriyama did. One thing is for sure and that's Oda'sOne Piece will not be allowed to end, even when the main story ends, and while that may be good for the fans in some way, it does certainly raise some questions. Regardless, in one way or another,One Piece is here to stay.

One Piece chapter 1146 will be out very soon, later this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on the upcoming Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on April 20. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1146 is April 20, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free onManga Plus.
