Lord of Highgarden

TheLord of Highgarden^[1] is the ruler of the stronghold ofHighgarden, the capital of theReach. The Lord of Highgarden usually holds the additional titlesLord Paramount of the Reach andWarden of the South.

The Reach was originally a sovereign nation known as theKingdom of the Reach untilAegon the Conqueror arrived inWesteros and united theSeven Kingdoms.House Tyrell were the stewards of Highgarden, swearing fealty toHouse Gardener before the latter house was eradicated in theField of Fire. After that, Aegon namedHarlen Tyrell as the first Lord Paramount of the Reach.

Olenna Tyrell was the penultimate ruling Lady of Highgarden of House Tyrell, assuming the title after her sonMace Tyrell died in theDestruction of the Great Sept of Baelor duringLoras Tyrell's trial. She was later assassinated viapoison byJaime Lannister on the orders ofQueen Cersei.

After the extinction of House Tyrell, SerBronn of the Blackwater, who had been dispatched byCersei to assassinate her brothersJaime andTyrion Lannister, agreed to spare them should he be named the Lord of Higharden afterDaenerys overthrows Cersei.^[2] This wish was granted after theBattle of King's Landing by the newly crownedBrandon Stark, who additionally named Lord Bronn theMaster of Coin on hisSmall Council.^[3]
