Nihon Falcom Corporation, couramment appeléFalcom, est unesociété japonaise d'édition et de développement dejeu vidéo fondée enmars 1981 parMasayuki Kato et basée àTokyo. Elle a produit une grande quantité de titres sur la plupart desmicro-ordinateurs etconsoles de salon du marché japonais, notamment de nombreuxRPG. Falcom a joué un rôle important dans la croissance de l'industrie du jeu sur PC au Japon, où elle a notoirement sorti le premier jeu de rôle japonais sur PC en 1983. Les séries les plus connues sontYs,Dragon Slayer,Lord Monarch ou encoreVantage Master[3].

  • Le 9 mars 1981,Masayuki Kato fonde Nihon Falcom.
  • Le premier jeu développé par la société estGalactic Wars, sorti en 1982.
  • Entre 1988 et 1990, le studio connait une vague massive de départs de développeurs. Parmi les plus connus, on retiendra le compositeurYūzō Koshiro et sa sœur Ayano Koshiro (qui fondront avec l'aide de leur mère le studioAncient),Tetsuya Takahashi (qui après avoir rejointSquaresoft sera l'un des piliers du studioMonolith Soft). Moins connus mais tout aussi importants, les créateurs de la sérieYs,Masaya Hashimoto etTomoyoshi Miyazaki ont fondé le studioQuintet pour le compte d'Enix (Actraiser,Illusion of Time, etc.).
  • En 2001, Masayuki Kato cède sa place de président de l'entreprise à Shinji Yamazaki.
  • En 2007, Toshihiro Kondo succède à Shinji Yamazaki.
  • En décembre 2023, Masayuki Kato est nommé président duconseil d'administration de l'entreprise.
  • Masayuki Kato, le fondateur de Nihon Falcom, décède le 15 décembre 2024 à l'âge de 78 ans[4].
