Depuis son adhésion à l'Union en 1850, laCalifornie a participé à 43élections présidentielles. État « baromètre » de 1888 à 1996, ne votant pour les candidats perdants qu'à trois reprises au cours de cette période, la Californie est devenue unÉtat bleu, un bastion pour leParti démocrate depuis 1992.
