Yunaka (Japanese:ユナカYunaka) is a wandering thief fromBrodia. Originally born asLarimar (Japanese:ラリマーLarimar), she was raised to be an assassin, but chose to abandon that path and instead reinvent herself as a peppy thief with an unusual vocabulary. After losing theRing of the Dawn Maiden, she encounteredAlear and helped them recover the Emblem Ring.
Yunaka is a playable character inFire Emblem Engage.
Biography
Main story
Yunaka was born to a poor family in Brodia under the name Larimar.[2] She was later abandoned by her parents and taken in by an assassin who trained her in his profession.[2][a] Later, the assassin was afflicted by an incurable disease; he told Larimar that he set her up to succeed him, offered all the money they earned together as payment, and tasked her with killing him.[4] Despite feeling scorn for him, Larimar also felt she would not be alive without him, so she honored his last wish.[4] Afterward, Larimar gave up assassination and changed her name to Yunaka.[4]
Yunaka stoleMicaiah's Emblem Ring to sell it for cash, but upon hearing Micaiah's desire to be united withthe Divine Dragon, changed her mind.[5] While traveling toFirene Castle following Micaiah's advice, she was ambushed by bandits; in the ensuing battle, she fled and dropped the Emblem Ring.[6] While looking for the Emblem Ring, she encounteredAlear andAlfred, to whom she explained her situation. When they revealed themselves to be royalty, she lied about the way she found the Emblem Ring, claiming she found it by chance.[7] She joined up with Alear to recover the Emblem Ring from the bandits which had found it, after which she confessed the truth of how she really met Micaiah, as well as her thieving motives.[5] As a form of punishment for lying, Alear and Alfred agreed to recruit Yunaka to their army.[8]
During her time in the army, Yunaka laid the groundwork for a fund for underprivileged kids so they would not have to go through what she went through, which she established with the help ofCitrinne.[9] After the war, Yunaka became a street performer for a few years, before vanishing without a trace.[10]
Fell Xenologue
Due to the different history prior to the second war against Sombron in another Elyos, Yunaka was not involved in the war nor its aftermath. However, it is implied inHeroes that the other Yunaka lived a normal, happy life with her parents[11] prior to dying prematurely.
Fire Emblem Engage
Role
Yunaka is a playable character. She joins automatically on turn 1 ofChapter 6, during which her defeat is considered a loss condition, and she is automatically synced withEmblem Micaiah once the enemy carrying herEmblem Ring is defeated. Her personal skill,Trained to Kill, grants her +15critical rate when onterrain providingavoid bonuses.

Yunaka is the first unit in theThief class that joins the player's army and she joins inChapter 6. In her join chapter she is equipped with theRing of the Dawn Maiden, which gives her strong utility despite Yunaka's low magic as the staff utility and the tiles revealed upon defeating an enemy with theShine tome while engaged makes her one of the most useful units in her joining chapter. Aside from the utility provided by the Emblem Ring, Yunaka has unique qualities provided by her starting class. Due to being a covert unit she will gain double bonuses fromterrain, which combined with her high base speed and decent luck, gives her excellentavoid that will give her a strong enemy phase despite her low defense and mediocre HP. Her great speed will also allow her to double most enemies in the earlygame. Due to being adagger user, Yunaka will have trouble one rounding enemies, but thanks to daggers inflicting enemies with thepoison status effect she will allow other player units to finish them off.
Yunaka's bases and growths are well suited for her starting class. With a decent personal strength of 3, high dexterity and speed, along with an unusual personal resistance of 3 allowing her to pick off enemy magic users in the earlygame. Yunaka's personal skill,Trained to Kill also pairs nicely with her class and bases as it significantly increases her critical rate while on terrain and allows her to deal higher damage and set up kills for other units against most enemies in the earlygame. Yunaka also joins with an S rank in daggers which allows her to use any dagger in the game for 0 investment.
Yunaka's flaws become apparent as the game goes on. While, she has a strong earlygame, as the enemies become stronger, her low strength and low might of daggers will become apparent as she will offer little aside from chip damage in terms of combat. This is manageable on the Normal and Hard difficulty modes, but onMaddening difficulty mode enemies get significantly stronger much faster which makes Yunaka's poor combat more apparent. Yunaka will still sport great avoid, but on Maddening mode specifically, enemies will not attack player units if they have 0% accuracy, meaning that enemies will simply ignore Yunaka on enemy phase. It is possible to do some intentional sabotage in order to slightly lower Yunaka's avoid to the point that enemies will attack her, but they will still have low chance to hit. However, this gives enemies an opportunity to start achain attack which have a fixed hit rate of 80%, combined with Yunaka's mediocre HP will most likely result in Yunaka's death. This can be fixed with thePair up skill as it prevents damage from foes' chain attacks, but said skill is costly and requires a bond level of 13 with theRing of the Crux of Fate.
As if everything aforementioned wasn't enough, the reduced experience gain of Maddening mode means that Yunaka will have a hard time leveling up and will face competition fromZelkov, a thief with much higher base stats and other units with strong combat likeKagetsu. Yunaka in particular has trouble keeping up with the rest of the army because of the thief class being unable to promote inEngage, missing out on extremely useful promotion bonuses. Yunaka is also difficult to reclass due to her low build greatly hampering her excellent speed and needing to reach level 21 to be able to use aSecond Seal. Her best path is reclassing into theWolf Knight class, due to their mounted utility and ability to use daggers. This will give Yunaka far better combat, but her low strength and defense will still remain as a weakness.
On the topic ofEmblem Rings, Yunaka can make good use of theBuild +,Vantage, andKnife Precision skills offered by theRing of the Sage Lord. Yunaka also pairs nicely with Emblem Corrin due to thefog terrain given to covert units with theDragon Vein skill, as it works well with the thief class and Yunaka's personal skill, as well as giving Yunaka access to the aforementioned Pair up skill. TheRing of the Hero King gives Yunaka stronger combat and useful skills such asPerceptive andAvoid +.
Overall, Yunaka is a unique unit with a strong earlygame and long term uses on the lower difficulty modes, but on Maddening mode will fall off as the game progresses if not reclassed and given significant resources to keep her on par with the rest of the army.

There are three different variations of Yunaka available inHeroes.
Personality
On the surface, Yunaka is bright and lively and can easily get along with people whom she has just met.[1] However, her energetic and sociable persona is an act.[12] In truth, Yunaka is cool and calculating, a side of her which she lets slip out when alone or during combat.[13][14] Due to her upbringing as the assassin Larimar, she is very anxious around other people[15] and finds herself unable to trust them easily.[16] Despite this, she dislikes being alone[17][18] and aims to find a place she can truly belong,[19] which she eventually finds at the Somniel.[20]
After leaving her life as an assassin behind her, she invented the identity of Yunaka; a cheerful, unassuming thief who speaks in silly phrases.[21] Though considered an act, this identity became just as real to Yunaka as her previous identity as Larimar was, and is the person she chooses to be.[22] She wishes to avoid talking about her past so as to avoid losing the trust of other people, to the point where she has become a habitual liar when it comes to her past[23][24]—a habit which has since bled into other parts of her daily life.[25] She despises herself for this, considering herself untrustworthy and questioning the unconditional trust others put in her.[26] Her low self-worth also causes her to question her reliability in other areas, such as combat performance[27] and acting ability.[28] Yet despite that, she sometimes allows her true self to shine through when around people she feels comfortable around.[29][30]
While she does not feel any major attachment to her past as Larimar, she still considers it a vital part of her identity[31] and is happy and unburdened when people who know of it still accept her wholeheartedly.[32][33]
Yunaka has a major interest in weaponry, having extensive knowledge of their craftmanship[34] and collecting rare weapons herself,[35] as well as enjoying the exchange of weapon factoids.[36] She is also deceptively perceptive,[37] observing even minor traits in a person's demeanor, which allows her to be an extremely gifted impersonator.[38]
