Yuliya (Japanese:ユミナYumina) is aCleric that first appears in Book 2 ofMystery of the Emblem and appears again in itsremake on theNintendo DS. She is the princess ofGrust and older twin sister of PrinceJubelo, the heir of the Grustian throne.

Promotion stat gains

InMystery of the Emblem, promotion gains for HP and weapon level consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—thex value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class's base value. If the character's value for one of those two stats is higher than their promoted class's base value, they will not receive any bonus in that stat.

Analysis

Yuliya joins in Chapter 4 of Book 2 and immediately stands out as the only unit in Book 2 capable of using theRescue staff she joins with. The Rescue staff is a useful utility tool which allows a player to transport units away from danger, among other uses. In the chapter she joins, there is already a good Rescue staff use—she can transport one of the player's main combat units to her location, allowing that unit to help save her andJubelo from approaching enemies. RescuingMarth to recruitCastor and reach the seize point more quickly is also a good option. The staff has plenty of good uses later in the game, such as in the desert chapters, but every strategy that involves it has to take into account the opportunity cost since it only has 5 uses. Yuliya also has access to the Aum staff, which is exclusive to her andElice. However, Aum can only be used after Elice has been recruited and after defeating Medeus.

Aside from Rescue and Aum, Yuliya's base weapon level allows her use a number of strong staves—includingWarp andRecover—and while she misses on being able to use some really useful staves such asPhysic andBarrier for a while, her early availability and good weapon level growth allows her to increase her weapon level reliably, allowing her to use them after a few levels. If she promotes as soon as she reaches level 10, Yuliya is guaranteed to reach at least 12 weapon level which allows her to use any staff available in the game save for theAnew staff, though as she joins at level 2 getting her promoted will require a lot of staff uses.

Analysis

Yuliya joins in Chapter 4 ofNew Mystery of the Emblem with theRescue staff in her inventory. The Rescue staff is useful, since it allows the player to transport units away from danger; however, inNew Mystery, Rescue is E-rank and not exclusive to Yuliya, so any staff user can make use of it at any time.

Yuliya's base C level in staves allows her to use many useful staves at base, suchPhysic,Warp andBarrier. However, Yuliya will need 120 staff experience—the equivalent of using a staff 60 times—to reach A staves; a promotion toBishop will grant 30 additional staff experience and at level 10 she's likely to be at B rank (needed forAnew) if she was trained as a Cleric.Sage will delay the A staff rank compared to Bishop (which is required to useFortify) but it also has slightly higher magic.

Yuliya's defensive stats are low, so she should be kept away from combat if she doesn't receive the proper investment (such as anAngelic Robe). Additionally, her base strength is 0 and she has as 0% growth, so she is best notreclassed to physical classes, and her magic base is fairly low, meaning that her initial damage output withtomes is unimpressive if reclassed toMage. Yuliya only has weapon level in staves, and will only have the base weapon level of the class she changes into if she reclasses, typically E; as such, she is best reclassed to classes that can use staves, i.e. Bishop or Sage. As a female, Yuliya is able to use the powerfulNosferatu tome regardless of tome rank as a Mage, Sage or Bishop but lack of innate tome rank and a lower personal magic growth compared to someone likeMarisha makes this an alternative of pretty minor value.

Yuliya is shown to be very prideful, and firm in her convictions. She is shown to be very stubborn, refusing to abandonLorenz when he's gravely wounded. Her pride also gets in the way of expressing her true emotions to others, as she has great difficulty thankingKris for being the first to want to rescue her fromLang.

Yuliya is deeply close with her twin brotherJubelo. Due to her brother's weak-willed personality, she is often the one taking charge between the two, prodding him to fight when they are threatened by the Macedonian Vikings^[1], and making sure he understands his place as a prince by teaching him the history ofGrust. When separated from her brother, Yuliya becomes very lonely, and worries about him a lot.^[2]

Yuliya: Princess of Grust
Yuliya is the princess of Grust, one of the kingdoms on the continent of Archanea. She and her brother, Jubelo, are twins, but she takes the lead with her strong disposition!	The War of Shadows once raged on the continent of Archanea. That was when Yuliya and Jubelo were both sent as hostages to Khadein, the city of magic.	During their captivity, the two were kept safe by Wendell, a pontifex of Khadein. However, the king of Grust succumbed to illness, and the kingdom collapsed at the end of a hard-fought war.	After the war, Yuliya and Jubelo returned to Grust, which was under the yoke of the Holy Empire of Archanea—and they soon found themselves imprisoned once more, this time accused of plotting a rebellion…
