Yewfelle
| ||||||
|
Yewfelle (Japanese:イチイバルIchii-bal) is abow introduced inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is theholy weapon once wielded byUllr of theTwelve Crusaders, bestowed upon her at theMiracle of Dahna after her blood pact with a dragon. The bow is the property of Ullr's descendants, the heirs ofGrannvale's HouseYngvi, and can only be wielded by those in possession of major UllrHoly Blood.
InAwakening, Yewfelle is a powerful bow that does not require any holy blood, but does require high bowweapon level to wield. InHeroes,Holy Yewfelle (Japanese:聖弓イチイバルSacred Bow Ichii-bal) is a bow skill unique to the Mythic HeroUllr: The Bowmaster; it boosts its user'sattack andspeed, and neutralizes any effects that would reduce their Special skill cooldown charge rate.
History
When Yngvi's LordLing, the owner of the bow, departed for the war inIsaach, he was persuaded by his daughterEdain to leave Yewfelle behind so that she could have it on hand in case she found her missing major-blooded sister,Brigid. The two did indeed eventually meet, to the north ofAgustria as an amnesiac Brigid flees her former subordinates, theOrgahil pirates. Brigid was initially disbelieving of Edain's claims as to her identity, so Edain gave her Yewfelle to use as a test. Drawing the bow reawakened Brigid's lost memories, and she joined Edain inSigurd's forces and continued to use Yewfelle for the rest of her time with them.
After theBattle of Belhalla, Yewfelle was inherited by Brigid's sonFebail, who eventually came to be employed as a mercenary byBloom until his sisterPatty convinced him to leave Bloom's employ and joinSeliph's liberation army.
Millennia later, Yewfelle came into the possession of theGrimleal, and was given to its reincarnation of theDeadlordDraco. If Draco was slain, the bow could be taken by theShepherds and used to opposeGrima. By this point, the bow is no longer sealed to the Ullr bloodline and is capable of being used by any archer of reasonable skill.

| English | Yewfelle | A compound most likely formed from "yew" and the verb "to fell", in the sense of "to cut a tree".[1] The spelling is an archaic imitation of Middle English. The yew is a tree whose wood was a common material used for making bows. The Norse godUllr lived inÝdalir (lit. "yew valleys"), and so is associated with the carving of bows from yew. |
| English (unofficial) | Ichaival | Used in theGenealogy of the Holy War andThracia 776fan translations. Some sources have erroneously claimed that "Ichaival" is the name of a bow owned by the Norse god Odin, but this is false. Ichaival is not a Norse word, and no myths ever mention such a bow. This false etymology has become widespread enough for the name to be used in other media, such as the video gameSmite and the animeSymphogear. It may have become widespread throughthis edit on the Wikipedia article "List of mythological objects". |
| Japanese | イチイバル | Officially romanized asIchii-bal.イチイichii is the Japanese word for the Japanese yew. The "bal" portion is perhaps to be short for "valley", and the name as a whole would be a translation of some sorts ofÝdalir (lit. "yew valleys").[citation needed] |
