Yarne (Japanese:シャンブレーChambray) is a playable character appearing inFire Emblem Awakening. He is the timid son ofPanne and a member of theTaguel race.

Role

Yarne is one of three possibleTaguel appearing inAwakening; the other two are his mother,Panne, and his possible siblingMorgan, ifRobin marries Panne.

Like the other child characters Yarne traveled to the past withLucina and was separated upon arrival. Finding himself alone and greatly afraid for his life, he eventually ends up working with the Stonewall Knights, a mercenary group. DuringParalogue 13 he enters battle with the Stonewall Knights against a rival group known as the Riders of Dawn. The battle can play out several ways depending on theRobin's choices, Robin can choose to align with the Stonewall Knights, the Riders of Dawn, or choose to fight both groups, thus aligning with neither. During the battle Yarne is approached by eitherPanne orChrom who convinces him to join theShepherds.

There are three different variations of Yarne available inFire Emblem Heroes. The normal variation of Yarne was added in theTruth of a Name update, and became available for summoning by players on June 11, 2019. A New Year's variation of Yarne was added to the game in theGods Renewed update and made available to players through theRenewing Gifts Tempest Trial, which first ran January 1–11, 2023. A Halloween variation of Yarne was added on October 4, 2024, and was first available through aTempest Trial that first ran October 4–14, 2024.

Personality

Yarne both prides and is tortured by his status as aTaguel. As the last known Taguel in existence, aside from his mother, who is deceased in the future he arrived from, he is terrified to the point of paranoia of death. His paranoia sometimes leads to cowardice, which disappoints his mother,Panne. As a result of his paranoia he constantly checks his own physical condition.^[1] He also will instinctively make up, obviously false, excuses to avoid battle.^[2] He sometimes flees fights, to the great annoyance of his allies.^[3] Yarne is not oblivious to his behavior and feels embarrassed about it at times.^[4] Yarne is also worried about being abandoned by his father in particular; his father was killed in battle after promising to return. In the present, this leads to him being paranoid of his father abandoningPanne, resulting in his birth never occurring.

Upon their initial meeting inParalogue 13, Panne is disappointed and angered that Yarne would hide behind the Stonewall Knights, a band of commonHuman thugs, for survival.^[5] Later after Panne has calmed down and come to an understanding that his fear comes from being the last Taguel, the two discuss that neither of them know what a traditional Taguel family is like, as both of them had lost their parents before they were of age to remember.^[6] The two initially begin by imitating human traditions, such as singing lullabys, but find this awkward.^[7] They both agree that imitating humans is not the path to reviving Taguel culture and decide to make their own new traditions based on what their hearts tell them to do.

Yarne: Timid Taguel
Yarne's a taguel who came to Ylisse from the future. "But wait," you say, "wasn't Panne the last of the taguels?" Well, Yarne is actually her son, and he's inherited her taguel powers!	Despite his fierce looks, Yarne's kind of a scaredy-cat sometimes. Maybe more than "kind of," actually—he'll jump a mile into the air if you call his name when he's not expecting it.	When it comes to fighting, however, Yarne is true to his taguel heritage, zipping around the battlefield from one foe to the next like a whirlwind! A whirlwind with floppy ears!	He might be easily frightened, but he's brave when it counts and will leap in to rescue his friends out of a tight spot. I guess that's something else he gets from his mom!

Here's Yarne, a taguel who can transform into a rabbit-like form! He's making a special appearance to celebrate the New Year with us, and he's wearing a kimono that matches the one worn by his mom, Panne!	Doesn't he look distinguished in his indigo-purple haori? He's also wearing hakama pants decorated with a tortoiseshell pattern, symbolizing longevity!	To go with his outfit, Yarne has brought a charm in the image of his mother, Panne. It looks like it's very important to him—perhaps it represents his wish for the survival of the taguel?	The fear of being the last of the taguel haunts Yarne, so he welcomed in the New Year with a few reps from his special Anti-Extinction Exercise Program. Looks to me like the taguel spirit is still going strong!

Yarne is a taguel who can change into a beast form. For this appearance, though, he’s wearing a special outfit to join us at the harvest festival!	Seems the concept for this dark-colored costume is a well-loved plushie that’s seen its fair share of wear and tear. Did you notice how he has makeup on his face and arms to represent stitches?	Oh, and that’s a taguel plushie he’s holding onto! Looks like it’s been stitched back together here and there, just like Yarne himself!	Perhaps it’s because of his timid personality, but Yarne seems a little hesitant about standing out. Still, I think this costume’s good enough to steal the show!

Trivia

• As with the other children characters ofAwakening, Yarne's birthday matches the Japanese release date of aFire Emblem series game: March 14th was the release date ofFire Emblem Gaiden in 1992.
  • Yarne's birthday also matches the European release date ofFire Emblem: Radiant Dawn in 2008.
• Yarne is the only one of the children characters who inherits a gender-specific class tree in place of a gender-neutral class tree from his mother. All other class tree swaps on children characters involve a gender-specific class on the parent, basically the reverse of what Yarne does. It is unknown why Yarne inherits theBarbarian tree in place of theWyvern Rider tree.
