Vyland (Japanese:ビラクBiraku) is a member of theAurelis knights. During most of theWar of Shadows, he was one of the knights serving under PrinceHardin, working to combat theMacedon occupation force and to protect PrincessNyna. Afterward, he was one of the founding members of theCoyote's Men. He was fiercely loyal to Hardin even in his descent into tyranny, and as such helped the Coyote's Men to obstructMarth's path toPalace near the climax of theWar of Heroes.

Analysis

Vyland is one of manyCavaliers in the game, and on the chapter he joins, you get 4 other horse-mounted characters; out of all the horse-mounted characters, he is by far the worst of all of them. Vyland's bases in every stat are equal or inferior to those of the other cavaliers—Abel,Cain,Matthis,Roshea, andHardin—who join in the same chapter or earlier, and worse than the pre-promotedPaladins:Jagen,Midia, andArran; his growths are equal or inferior to every Cavalier and Paladin barring Jagen with two exceptions: hisspeed growth is 10% higher than Roshea's, and hisweapon level growth of 70% ties with Abel's, Matthis's, and Hardin's. Any of the units listed above are much better than Vyland, joining earlier or stronger, so Vyland should only be used if you have lost a significant number of cavalry units and you want to replace them with another one. Despite being inferior to every other unit of his class, Vyland is still usable—due to being a Cavalier, he has high movement, allowing him to move and attack an enemy from outside its range, and access toswords allows him to double most units using heavier weapons; additionally, Vyland has the weapon level to useJavelins, allowing him to attack from 2-range and avoid retaliation.

Late in theWar of Heroes, Vyland and the Coyote's Men were travelling south to Palace to bolster Emperor Hardin's forces against the approachingAltean army led by PrinceMarth. Their path took them through the central mountains, where they crossed paths with the Altean army and ambushed it. He is either killed in the ensuing conflict or, should the player visit the village, he stands down along with the rest of the Aurelian forces upon the command of the King of Aurelis.

Analysis

Vyland joins at the start of Chapter 5 with very low base stats, but passable defense and HP stats. His speed is low enough that he can be doubled and one-rounded in higher difficulties, while his low strength and skill make his offense unimpressive as well. With only an E rank in swords and a D rank in lances, the best weapons Vyland can wield areSteel Lances andJavelins, denying him access to effective weapons such as theRidersbane without investment. He joins underleveled—only at level 1—and his growth rates are mediocre, making it difficult to turn him into a good combat unit. Since he is far away from promotion, he cannot boost his very poor base stats and low weapon ranks.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Role

Analysis

Vyland is difficult to use inNew Mystery. This is mainly due to the fact that he joins extremely late with very poor base stats which will have him getting one rounded or one-shot by the large majority of enemies inNew Mystery on the highest difficulty modes, while he will be relegated to dealing chip damage. Vyland does luckily possess high weapon ranks in swords and lances, where he can reclass into aSwordmaster to gain access to theMercurius or use twoArms Scrolls to be able to wield both the Mercurius and theGradivus while in thePaladin class, however, by the time Vyland joins the player should already have better users for these weapons such asSirius,Catria, or many other candidates. Sedgar also possesses very good growths, but most units inNew Mystery do as well and those that do not likely have better bases or availability to make up for it. Overall, Vyland is among the weakest units in the game and takes an enormous amount of investment to become usable.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Vyland is one of the characters added to the game in theWhat Remains update, and was initially made available to players as a reward for the "Ascended Heroes Celebratory Quests", which ran from October 18, 2021 to October 30, 2021. Vyland was later made available to summon from the 3★ and 4★ summoning pools starting with theNinja Training summoning event starting on November 5, 2021. Only one variation of Vyland is currently available inHeroes, based on hisMystery of the Emblem incarnation.

Vyland: Coyote's Justice
Here's Vyland, one of a band of elite knights called the Coyote's Men who serve Aurelis, one of the kingdoms of Archanea!	Vyland comes from the plains, and like many of his kin, he was forced into slavery. After he was freed by Hardin, he vowed to protect Hardin, even if it meant giving his own life.	He's also very close with Wolf, Roshea, and Sedgar—he and his fellow members of the Coyote's Men are like brothers, through and through. He and Roshea fight as a team on the battlefield, and they always have each other's backs.	Vyland is loyal and dedicated to his crew, but I'm sure he'll give his all when helping out the Order of Heroes too!
