Vaida is aWyvern Lord fromBern paid by theBlack Fang to hunt down and killHector,Eliwood, and their allies.

If the chapter,Unfulfilled Heart, where she is the boss, is completed without killing her, she will leave and will be reencountered in the chapterCog of Destiny.If Eliwood or Hector talks to her and, depending on the tale being played, she will say that she serves only Bern and joins them because she is a firm supporter ofZephiel, and that they stopped his assassination attempt.

Analysis

As expected from a prepromote joining your army during the last few chapters, Vaida comes with amazing base stats, with her rather low speed and resistance stats as well as her terrible Aid and mediocre avoid being the only flaws to criticize (aside from her poor availability of course). Her base HP, strength and defense on the other hand can most likely keep up with your most durable units, while flying movement gives her an additional mobility advantage over them. She also comes with A-weapon-ranks in both swords and lances, both weapon types offering her a powerful arsenal she can most likely use without minding weapon weight due to her high constitution. Considering the following chapters will throw groups of units with high strength and durability likeGenerals andWyvern Riders at you, a unit like Vaida with high movement who can also take multiple attacks while doing decent damage back is a well-welcomed addition to your army.

While her statspread might suggest that she cannot deal well with magic wielding units, her huge pool of hitpoints actually allows her to face some mages if you want her to, especially if her resistance gets further increased by using aPure Water orBarrier Staff. Otherwise she can also avoid most magic users duringSands of Time andVictory or Death regardless. Her speed is a bigger issue, since it also affects her combat against enemies with physical attacks. While it is high enough to avoid getting doubled by most enemies and double the slower ones, Vaida will usually lack the speed to double bosses or some stronger enemies, and she can get doubled by some enemies during the final chapterLight. Having a high weapon level helps her out in that regard, since she can always equip brave weapons to get an additional hit on her opponents to maximize her damage output or oneround them.

Like other fliers, Vaida can move freely around the map, but receives additional damage from bows. However, thanks to her high defense stat, she doesn't mind the effective damage from bows too much. Instead, her high constitution and therefore low Aid troubles her, making Vaida a very bad ferry unit compared to your other fliers. Since her combat is good, this usually isn't much of an issue, but it should be kept in mind if you need to decide between her and one of your trained fliers for a deployment slot.

Personality

Vaida is arrogant, brash, and unsympathetic. She shows no concern for those around her, even whenHeath volunteers to follow her to her death or whenHarken states his admiration and respect for her.

Vaida is quick tempered and belligerent—challenging bothKarla andWallace to a duel during their support conversations. During her supports withKarla, Vaida becomes infuriated whenKarla seemingly disrespects her strength as a fighter and her rank as a wyvern general ofBern. Vaida quickly challengesKarla to a duel after feeling insulted and mocked. During her supports withWallace, Vaida is eager to engage in a duel with the general and even tauntsWallace by calling him a coward after he refuses.When meetingDorcas for the first time in person, her first instinct is to ask him whether he is looking for a beating.

She is coarse when addressing others, whether it be referring toCanas as "worm-bait", describingWallace as a "shiny little teapot", or suggesting thatHector's armor may have "rusted his brain". During her recruitment conversations, Vaida addressesEliwood/Hector as "boy" and describes his army as his "little playmates".

Vaida seems to find pleasure in tormenting others—going so far as to takeCanas's prized tome and feed it to her wyvern Umbriel for entertainment.

Despite her callous demeanor, Vaida shows undying loyalty toBern and princeZephiel. This loyalty is most evident when shejoinsEliwood's army purely because hesaved prince Zephiel from assassination and felt it neccesarry to repay her debt. In a conversation withHeath, Vaida asserts that her top priority is the safety ofZephiel and the success ofBern and that she would gladly give her life in order to uphold these endeavors.

Vaida, Flying Fang
Some rumors say that Vaida died at the hands of Bern forces. Others say she now serves Bern's Prince Zephiel.

Heath and Vaida
After paying her debt to Eliwood, Vaida returned to Bern. Though no longer an official knight, she sought to aid the prince from the shadows. Heath followed her home to Bern to support her.

Harken and Vaida
Though both desired to be together, they could not bring themselves to end their service to their lords, and so they parted ways. That was the last time Harken ever heard Vaida's voice.

Vaida: Dracofang General
The kingdom of Bern is a major military power on the continent of Elibe. Vaida was once praised as the most powerful commander of the kingdom’s Royal Wyvern Knights!	However, she was framed by corrupt elites in the army, who painted her refusal to massacre innocent villagers during a mission as an act of rebellion.	Vaida was forced to desert and flee the army. However, her loyalty wasn’t with the king who allowed this corruption to happen, but with the prince, Zephiel.	Hoping to stay close to Zephiel and defend him, Vaida wanted to return to Bern’s army. And so she started working with Nergal, the shadowy figure pulling the strings of the Black Fang assassins...

• Vaida's wyvern is named Umbriel.
• Vaida wields an enhanced variant of theSpear inchapter 24E/26H that provides her with extreme stat bonuses, colloquially known as the "Uberspear". Through use of theMine glitch,it is possible for the player to obtain this Spear for their own use.
• An early version of her support conversation withHeath found in theprototypebuilds ofThe Blazing Blade depicts Vaida as Heath's sister.^[2] This relation was not retained in the retail release, though Vaida does still mention she has known Heath since he was young.^[3]
