Uprising (Japanese:反乱鎮圧Supression of a Rebellion) is the thirteenth chapter of theConquest campaign inFire Emblem Fates. In this chapter,Corrin is tasked with leading theNohrian standing army to stop a rebellion inCheve, and must face off against Chevois rebels led byScarlet alongside theirHoshidan allies led byTakumi.

Plot

At Castle Krakenberg,Corrin andIago have a short discussion about a rebellion inCheve before Corrin goes to meet withGaron; after Corrin leaves, Iago states that hisplans forMacarath wasn't severe enough, also revealing that he was the one who alerted Ryoma of their location and that his next plan will be more difficult to slither out of. Inside the throne room, Corrin andAzura arrive to Garon's presence, to which Garon commends Corrin on their prowess before bringing up the rebellion in Cheve; Garon states that the rebellion is still small at this time but will not remain so, and he's sendingNohr's standing army to strike the rebels down before things get out of control, and is tasking Corrin to take the lead. As Corrin reluctantly accepts the mission and is about to be dismissed by Garon, they reveal that Azura has returned to Nohr; Garon and Azura exchange few words, with the bulk of the exchange being Garon asking Azura to assist Corrin to see more of Nohr for herself. Once Garon leaves, Corrin takes notice of the lack of words spoken between Garon and Azura despite being family, speaking to Azura about this matter, who doesn't seem concerned about it. This bothers Corrin, but doesn't say more. Once Azura leaves and Corrin prepares to depart,Hans arrives on the scene and tells Corrin that he will be accompanying them to Cheve as a member of the standing army. Corrin asks Hans how they can trust him afterwhat happened at theBottomless Canyon; Hans apologizes for what happened and brings upCorrin's fateful decision and commends them formaking the right choice and states that he has faith that Corrin will lead the standing army to victory.

We cut to Cheve, where Corrin,Elise andCamilla notice the lack of activity and state that they should prepare for the following day;Takumi arrives on the scene and, stating that he's been waiting for Corrin, ambushes them by shooting at them, after which Corrin asks Takumi to lay down his weapon and return toHoshido. The leader of the resistance in Cheve,Scarlet, appears on the scene and states that her people have been tracking Corrin ever since they left Nohr, and states that the resistance's Hoshidan allies were grateful to learn where Corrin was; as Camilla denounces Scarlet as a traitor, Takumi states that Scarlet made a choice very similar to Corrin's except thatshe made the right decision, after which Elise jumps in and warns Takumi not to insult Corrin, but this prompts him to retaliate by shooting her as well. As Takumi and Corrin continue to jab at each other, with Takumi believing Corrin's out for blood and Corrin stating that they want peace, Takumi then calls his troops into battle;preparations take place at this point, and the battle begins once preparations are finished.

At the end of turn 2 enemy phase,Benny andCharlotte arrive on the scene, with Charlotte noting that the Chevois rebels are making a lot of noise; Corrin mistakes Benny and Charlotte as Chevois rebels, prompting Charlotte to state that she and Benny are proud Nohrian soldiers defending the border and state resentment to being compared to the Chevois rebels. Corrin apologizes to Benny and Charlotte, stating that they didn't know that they were Nohrian border guards, then introduces himself/herself; Benny and Charlotte start talking about how the Chevois rebels making noise and reveal that they're there to help Corrin before she introduces herself and Benny.

Once the battle ends, Corrin tells Takumi to stop fighting and return to Hoshido with his troops, after which Takumi taunts Corrin and vows revenge; after Takumi leaves, Azura notices that Takumi is no longer the person he is and has changed, with Corrin deducing that it's due to their betraying Hoshido and Azura stating thatanother reason may be in play. Before they can discuss further, a cry of pain is heard, to which Corrin and Azura decide to hurry over; we witness Hans attacking unarmed, innocent villagers. Corrin attempts to talk Hans into stopping his attack, but Hans states that he's doing Corrin a favor, as letting these villagers live would simply create more rebels down the line. Corrin doesn't care and attempts to directly order Hans to stop his killing, but Hans states that he's following Garon's orders in killing the villagers, and that Garon's orders override Corrin's and continues his killing spree. Camilla, noting the horrid sight, states that she wishes things could be different before breaking the news that the injured Hoshidan soldiers have already been killed, and that Scarlet has also been killed to make an example, prompting Corrin to state that they could have gotten Scarlet to listen to reason had they gotten the chance, but that chance is now wasted. As Corrin questions what Garon's motives are, Camilla states she's about to summon a messenger to report back to Garon, Corrin asks Camilla how she is so calm with the massacre, Camilla states that she doesn't have an answer for Corrin and they must bury their feelings and keep following Garon's orders, to which Corrin states something else has to be done.

Summary

After defeating the Hoshidans at Macarath, Corrin returns to Nohr. There, Corrin is ordered to march to Cheve and stop an uprising.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Your first problem is the three Knights in the upper right corner of the map, who should go down easily to your Wyvern Riders and Dark Mages. Use a tanky unit like Effie or Silas to lure in Takumi and his goons. This is the only fight against him on this route where he cannot fight at 1 range, so your mages should have little trouble getting in close and obliterating him. His group should by annihilated by the end of turn 2.

At the beginning of turn 3, Charlotte and Benny arrive. If you likedGonzalez fromThe Binding Blade, you'll like Charlotte; she has questionable defenses and poor accuracy, (although she has a 50% growth), but hits like a dump truck with decent speed and a solid growth of 65%, and is the best candidate for the Aurgelmir. Benny has absurdly high Defense and almost no Speed, making him highly effective as a defensive General. Give him Wary Fighter and he's good to go. They spawn right next to the three Diviners trying to outflank you, so make sure they don't get overrun. Between his base stats and a pair up with Charlotte, Benny has enough power to one-shot the Diviner with the Tiger Spirit, so that helps. You'll also have four aggravatingly bulky Wyvern Riders with Knights paired up bearing down on your main force.

At the beginning of turn 4, a Ruffian will appear to loot the Chevois civilians, and the Chevois knights prove their moral superiority by doing nothing to stop him. Fortunately, he only has 3 movement, so you have until about turn 8 to deal with him. Once you're done with the Wyverns, have Effie pull in the Cavaliers and Reina. Watch out for the two with Beast Killers, or you might find yourself lacking a Silas. After Reina's group is down, you can move on to Orochi. Kaze will eat Orochi's goons alive, while Niles can destroy Orochi herself since her Calamity Gate reverses the weapon triangle.

Once the Ruffian is down for the count, all that's left should be Scarlet and her crew. Heal and visit the villages before taking her on. Be warned that a bunch of Wyvern Riders will appear to the northwest and Cavaliers to the southeast when you aggro Scarlet and her group. Scarlet's Bowbreaker makes it difficult to take advantage of the usual Wyvern weakness to bows, so mages are your best bet.

Trivia

  • This chapter reuses the map fromBirthright Chapter 13.
    • Both chapters take place in Chapter 13 for both routes and takes place at Cheve.
  • During the cutscene before this chapter, Elise survives being shot directly by Takumi. In order to do so in gameplay, she would have to have reached level 20 on average in order to accumulate the necessary HP and Defense, and may even need to promote to do so, something that is highly unlikely in ordinary gameplay.
  • When Takumi first appears in this chapter, he is shown wearing his default Archer outfit, but when he is fought in battle, he changes to his Sniper outfit.
  • When fighting against Takumi during this chapter, the song "Puppet's Feast" plays instead of "You of the Light" that typically plays when facing against Hoshidan royalty. This is foreshadowing how Takumi is slowly being possessed byAnankos. This is also seen later inChapter 23.
