TheTrueblade (Japanese:剣聖ソードエスカトスSword Eschatos) is an advancedsword-usingclass which debuted inFire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. It is a rarethird-tier promoted class and the final stage of theMyrmidon class, promoting from theSwordmaster class.

Being an advanced Swordmaster, the Trueblade continues the Myrmidon line's traditional stat build and takes it to its extreme conclusion. While their raw damage output is lower than the average due to their lesserstrength, theirskill andspeed are immense and among the highest of any class, giving them greataccuracy and a very high chance offollow-up attacking their foes and making them very efficient fighters. As a result of their high skill and their possession of a skill which grants them a significant critical bonus, Trueblades also inflictcritical hits very frequently. They also make near-exclusive use of the iconicAstra skill, allowing them to land five consecutive blows on their target when the skill activates.

However, Trueblades are held back by their frailty, as theirmaximum HP,defense andresistance are all fairly low compared to other infantry classes. In addition, their sword-exclusive nature greatly limits their options for long-range attack. As with Swordmasters, Trueblades are most effective when their faults are mitigated through tactical use ofterrain benefits to bolster their defenses and increase theiravoid.

Japanese

剣聖ソードエスカトス

Officially romanized asSword Eschatos; literally translates as "sword saint". InRadiant Dawn, all Japanese class names are spelled primarily in kanji (i.e.剣聖), with a foreign-language name in katakana applied asfurigana (i.e.ソードエスカトス) and used as the basis for the romanized name in the class roll.
In feudal Japanese culture, kensei (剣聖) was a title given to aswordfighter (剣士) of legendary skill. It is even higher in prestige than the titlekengō (剣豪), which was bestowed upon great swordfighters.
TheRadiant Dawn furigana/romanized name, Sword Eschatos, is taken from the Greekἔσχατοςéschatos, "furthest" or "extreme", implying the class is the "greatest swordsman".
