Throne of Knowledge (Japanese:深遠の玉座The Throne of Profundity) is the eleventh chapter ofFire Emblem: Three Houses and the final chapter before the Black Eagles storyline splits off from the other routes.

Plot

Seteth confrontsRhea, reveals that he has readJeralt's diary, and demands to know what she did toByleth as a child. Their conversation is interrupted by Byleth themself, and Rhea explains that she and the students are to accompany Byleth to the Holy Tomb so they can receive a divine revelation in the footsteps of SaintSeiros. If Byleth is a member of theGolden Deer,Claude eavesdrops on this conversation and resolves to find out what they're hiding. If Byleth is a member of theBlack Eagles,Edelgard asks them to spend a few days with her on a trip to the Imperial capital of Enbarr. If they agree, they witness Edelgard convince her father EmperorIonius IX to abdicate theAdrestian throne and crown her as the new emperor. Afterwards,Duke Aegir,Ferdinand's father and one of the men responsible for forcing Edelgard through torturous experiments to imbue her with the Crest of Flames, appears, and Edelgard immediately dismisses him from his position as Prime Minister. At the conclusion of the month, Rhea, Byleth, and the students venture into the Holy Tomb. Rhea bids Byleth sit onSothis's throne, but nothing happens. Just then, Adrestian soldiers loyal to theFlame Emperor appear to raid the Tomb of its Crest Stones.

If Byleth is a member of theBlue Lions or Golden Deer, the Flame Emperor personally appears in command of their troops. A battle ensues, Byleth emerges victorious, and the Flame Emperor's mask is knocked off, revealing her to be Edelgard. If Byleth is a member of the Blue Lions,Dimitri goes completely berserk, rampages through a squad of Adrestian soldiers, and accuses her of orchestrating theTragedy of Duscur, which she denies. If Byleth is a member of the Black Eagles, Edelgard directly admits that she is the Flame Emperor before the fight even begins; Byleth defeats her and her troops.

If Byleth is a member of the Black Eagles, Rhea orders them to kill Edelgard. If they accompanied Edelgard to her coronation in Enbarr, they have the option of deciding to protect Edelgard. Rhea declares Byleth a traitor, vows to take back Sothis's power with her own hands, and transforms into a colossal dragon thatHubert and Edelgard identify as the "Immaculate One", the leader of a group of monsters that controlsFódlan in secret. Byleth flees with Edelgard and Hubert.

If Byleth is a Blue Lion or Golden Deer, or agrees to kill Edelgard or never accompanied her to Enbarr on the Black Eagles route, Edelgard escapes with Hubert. If Byleth is a Black Eagle, Seteth offers the Adrestian students the opportunity to return to the Empire and fight alongside her, but they all agree that she needs to be stopped. If Byleth is a Golden Deer, Claude resolves to find out from Edelgard what power the Crest Stones hold. In any case, Edelgard returns to Enbarr and formally declares war on theChurch of Seiros and its allies.

At the start of Conflict in the Holy Tomb,Edelgard andHubert will leave the party, rejoining if the player sides with the Adrestian Empire at the end of the chapter, or leaving permanently if the player sides with the Church of Seiros; if the player sides with the Adrestian Empire,Flayn will permanently leave the party at the end of the chapter instead.

Strategy

At the beginning of the chapter, Byleth automatically receives a certification in their unique personal class, theEnlightened One. For Black Eagles players, Edelgard and Hubert cannot participate in monastery activities during this month, and Hubert is also unavailable for battles.Be warned that this is the last opportunity you will have to complete Part I paralogues other thanDividing the World. In addition, if choosing to follow the Crimson Flower route, this is the last opportunity you will have to spend time in the monastery and recruit students from other houses before the end of Part I, or buyBattalions affiliated with the Church for the rest of the route.

For Blue Lions players, this is your last chance to completeWar for the Weak. Dedue will leave the party at the end of Part 1, and if you do not complete this paraloguehe will not rejoin. Completing it allows him to rejoin inchapter 16.

Route split (Black Eagles only)

If Edelgard is talked to and her & Byleth's C+ support has been reached, she will offer Byleth the chance to accompany her to Enbarr during a storyline event.If the player refuses to accompany Edelgard, they attempt to see the event without the required support level, or they do not speak to Edelgard that month, the player will end up locked into the Silver Snow route by default. By contrast, if the requirementwas met, this will end the day and skip over the next instruction period, unlocking the option to advance to the Crimson Flower route. Note that taking this trip on the 22nd allows you to do this at no penalty since there is no instruction on the 23rd. At the end of the chapter, the player will be prompted to choose between protecting or killing Edelgard. Protecting her leads to the Crimson Flower route and sends the player toOutset of a Power Struggle. Otherwise, deciding to kill her sends the player to the Silver Snow route, starting withTo War.

If choosing to take the Crimson Flower route, it is suggested to avoid training Edelgard'sauthority level during the chapter unless she can surpass her current rank before the end of the month; at the start of the next chapter, Edelgard's authority will be increased to C if it is lower, but due to an oversight, any skill points she has gathered towards her next authority level will be lost, even if she has higher than C authority.
