Thoron (Japanese:トロンThoron) is a recurring lightning-basedmagic tome of considerable power which debuted inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. Originating as anuncategorised tome,Genealogy of the Holy War later defined it asthunder magic. In most of its appearances, it is roughly equivalent in power and esteem toBolganone andTornado, generally sharing the sameweapon level and accordingly acting as a thunder counterpart to theirfire andwind roles as the ultimate non-legendary spell of its kind. When cast, it strikes the target with a beam of lightning. In bothThree Houses andEngage, it is an extended range weapon with 1–3 range instead of the standard 1–2 range of tomes. InEngage, it is exceptionally heavy and cannot performfollow-up attacks at all in exchange.
InFates, it isRobin's personal weapon.
History
In Archanea
InArchanea, Thoron is portrayed in a similar light to theExcalibur tome as a revered tome inherited byArlen ofKhadein; however, unlike Excalibur and its ownerMerric, Arlen never possesses the only copies in the games and any unit can use the tome. A second copy of Thoron is also a similarly notable item belonging to BishopBoah ofArchanea; this copy passed hands throughHeimler (Volzhin in the remakes),Camus and back to Boah viaMarth during the events ofShadow Dragon, and Boah's last act inMystery of the Emblem was to give it to Marth again.

Thoron is part ofRobin'sneutral special move,Thunder, inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS andWii U. When charged up for certain periods of time, it will become a stronger thunder spell when released. Thoron is the fourth and most powerful charging stage, achieved when Robin finishes charging Thunder for the full three seconds and the charge effect stops. When launched, it throws a large electric beam a great distance across the stage, striking multiple targets and dealing both good damage (between 10-19% per character struck) and significant knockback.
Thoron's functionality and power is altered slightly when cast through Robin'salternate neutral special moves: Thunder+'s Thoron is faster and has even greater power and range, while Speed Thunder's has a shorter beam tail and only damages foes once. As per Robin'sdurability mechanic, a successful Thoron consumes 8 durability points (or 10 if the alternate special move is Thunder+).

Trivia
- Tome of Thoron'sWrath-like effect inHeroes is a reference to the fact thatTailtiu, the weapon's wielder, has Wrath inGenealogy of the Holy War.
- InFire Emblem Engage,Zephia has access to a unique variation of Thoron. It is statistically identical to a regular Thoron tome, save for an internalworth of 100, but its spell animation uses a unique purple color scheme.
- InHeroes, Thoron+, unlike its colored counterpartsBolganone+,Fenrir+,Shine+ andRexcalibur+, was never made obtainable due to no unit having it. Players seeking to use Thoron+'s statistics and abilities must instead use the statistically identical Shine+.
- The introduction of colorless tomes sawAtlas+ enter a similar situation, albeit as the side effect of all colorless tome units introduced thus far having either apersonal weapon or using an inheritable tome with secondary effects.
