The Sable Order (Japanese:グルニア黒騎士団Grunia Black Knights) is the eighteenth chapter inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light andFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It is one of the five chapters to be cut from Book I ofFire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.

Plot

Main article:The Sable Order/Script

WithAltea liberated,Marth sets out for the Fane of Raman to retrieve theLightsphere and theStarsphere. He is accosted by a cohort ofGrustian cavalry, andNyna expresses concerns that the famed Grustian generalCamus will oppose them; Marth explains that he has angeredDolhr for insubordination and is currently being kept "on a short leash", to her relief. During the ensuing battle, the Whitewing sisterEst arrives and joins Marth's forces, having stolen theArchanean regalia swordMercurius. Marth overcomes Grust's forces and elects to take a handful of soldiers to search the Fane of Raman.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Preparation

  • This chapter is cavalry-heavy, so prepare accordingly. BringRidersbanes,Poleaxes, and theWing Spear.
  • Sell iron weapons and buy steel ones for more damage, but save some money for later chapters where only silver weapons are effective.
  • Focus on using and leveling up only your strongest units from this point forward.
  • Try to conserve resources, as future battles will require more powerful weapons and well-leveled units.

During Battle

1. Initial Strategy:

  • Position high-defense units, likeGenerals, on the bridge to block and counter enemies.
  • Use anti-cavalry weapons to eliminate threats.
  • Optionally, letMarth use hisRapier to take downHorsemen for extra experience.

2. Reinforcements & New Recruit:

  • Expect additional enemies from the southwest forts upon reaching the southern shore.
  • Est arrives on turn 6 in the southwest corner of the map carrying the powerfulMercurius sword. Speak to her with Marth to recruit her. While she's initially weak, herTriangle Attack can be very powerful.
    • Est does not have to be immediately recruited, and if Marth is inaccessible, she will not attack. An unrecruited Est can be strategically used to block 1-range enemies from attacking if she can be kept on the bridge.
    • Mercurius is received by Marthas an event item, and Est will lose the Mercurius in her inventory. This means it will trigger a convoy prompt if Marth tries to receive it with a full inventory, which can have niche uses in getting it onto the field; you can have a unit take it out of the convoy and trade it to a waiting carrier if it is in the convoy, but you can't double-trade if it is stuck in Marth's inventory.

3. Combat Tips:

  • Beware of enemies with strong weapons (Silver, Killer,Armorslayer).
  • Try to eliminate foes in one turn because of theCurate with theFortify staff.
  • Flying units can safely harass from the sea withJavelins as long as you watch out for the Horsemen andCavaliers with ranged weapons.
  • Use long-range magic to safely deal with the boss,Sternlin.
