Plot

Main article:The Return/Script

Mauvier escortsAlear to his docked ship, where the two reconvene withMarni. Though she is befuddled, Mauvier explains that the two of them have no reason to fight Alear at the moment, so she hesitantly accepts a temporary truce. The group then sets sail toLythos.

Onboard, Alear reveals to Marni that they areSombron's child, making themVeyle's long-lost, only remaining living sibling. When they ask why Sombron and Veyle are going to Lythos, Mauvier explains that Sombron intends to destroy theDivine Dragon Shard held there to raise the sunken land ofGradlon; afterwards, he intends to invade and rule other worlds. Alear then asks why Sombron called Veyle a "defect", which Mauvier responds to by expounding what he knows of Veyle's life prior to that moment: afterthe war one thousand years ago, Veyle's mother perished, leaving her to hide alone to avoid being killed herself. Centuries later, she found a hidden temple to sleep in, kept safe byFell Dragon worshippers. After reawakening, she found the worshippers dead and later reunited with Sombron, who considered her a defect for being unable to summonEmblems despite being dragon royalty. As he needed her powers, however, he hadZephia tamper with her personality. Marni, choked up by Veyle's life story, then tells of her own past: as the only girl in a family of many boys, her mother had abandoned her in a church when the two went for a walk, after which she eventually met Zephia and joined theFour Hounds. Mauvier then reveals that he was one of the worshippers in the temple Veyle slept in, and that she asked him to be her knight after she woke up, which he accepted. Marni deserts the group, stating that she and the others will be enemies once again after they arrive on Lythos.

The ship reaches Lythos, which Alear finds falling to ruin. Their army hastens to the castle, where they encounter Zephia andGriss. Mauvier and Marni catch up, and the former two are disgusted by their seeming betrayal. Mauvier covers up for Marni and takes the blame, urging her to return to the two. Zephia offers to forgive him, but he refuses, knowing she will punish him. Veyle then arrives, dressed in dark armor and adorned in Sombron's enchanted helmet. Marni, distraught by Veyle's personality shift, rejects Zephia and attempts to destroy Veyle's helmet, but fails. Zephia then walks up to her and stabs her, leaving her mortally wounded. As Marni lays dying, she asks Mauvier to tell Veyle's benevolent self that she has done well, and then dies in Mauvier's arms. Enraged, Mauvier declares his rejection of Zephia and intent to fight alongside Alear, which the latter welcomes. Veyle taunts them with EmblemMarth, then states her wish to kill Alear so that she can be Sombron's only child. A battle erupts between the two forces in the castle.

After the clash, the enchanted helmet cracks, causing Veyle's benevolent self to return. Veyle sorts out her head, then returns the Ring of the Hero-King to Alear. Soon after, Sombron barges in and orders Veyle to reclaim the Emblem Rings, but she refuses. In response, Sombron attempts to blast her with his lethal breath, but she is shielded by Alear. Veyle cries for Alear, who apologizes to her for being unable to protect her before, and then passes on. The dragonstone that Veyle held then breaks within her hand. Sombron reveals to her that Alear is her sibling, and she bursts into tears over them.

Sombron seizes the opportunity to retake all twelve Emblem Rings, and uses their once-per-millennium power to grow to such an immense size that he dwarfs and destroys Lythos Castle. He then casts the rings aside, flies into he sky, opens a dark portal, and raises Gradlon out of the oceans surrounding Lythos. In the ruins of the castle, Zephia and Griss come to Veyle, and manage to reawaken her bloodthirsty persona once again thanks to Sombron's increased power. Veyle commands the two to leave, and then summons a horde ofCorrupted to eliminate Alear's army.Alfred,Diamant,Ivy,Timerra, andVander are left to despair for Alear.
