The two enter a military alliance against the Kingdom and Church. Afterwards, Claude justifies his actions by stating that the balance of power in Fódlan is shifting and he does not want Leicester to be left holding the short straw when the dust settles.Shamir reports that a battle has erupted between Imperial and Church forces in Ailell, the Valley of Torment. Claude declares his intention to tear down the stagnant old traditions of Fódlan and orders his troops to mobilize to rescue Imperial forces.

Claude delays relieving Randolph in order to surround the Knights and protect his own troops, allowing Catherine to kill Randolph and wipe out the Imperial forces before being slain herself. In the aftermath, Shez and Judith angrily berate Claude for leaving Randolph to die, and Claude agrees to rethink his leadership strategy.
