Item data
The chests in this chapter will contain the contents of Leif and Lifis's inventories plus aJavelin, aSteel Sword, aRapier, and aVulnerary. The chapter contains at most 16 chests, if there are more than 16 items (because Leif and Lifis had more than 12 items between them) then the game will delete the items with the lowest monetary value, with unsellable weapons treated as having a value of 60000. Items and staves are treated as having +30000 and +20000 added to their value respectively for this calculation.
Enemy data
- Stats with two figures separated by a ~ are presented as a range, representing stats that vary due to random growths. The figures to the left and right of the ~ are the stat's minimum and maximum possible values respectively.
Reinforcements
Reinforcements begin appearing if any of the four initialSoldiers have been provoked or all of them have been defeated or captured and released. Each individual reinforcement has a 40% chance to appear each turn; if there are 13 Soldiers on the map at the start of an enemy phase, no reinforcements will appear that turn.
- Turns 7–20
- One level 1Soldier from the western stairs
- Turns 8–60
- One level 3Soldier from the southern stairs
- Turns 10–24
- One level 4Soldier from the southern stairs
- Turns 12–24
- One level 2Soldier from the eastern stairs
NPC data
- Stats with two figures separated by a ~ are presented as a range, representing stats that vary due to random growths. The figures to the left and right of the ~ are the stat's minimum and maximum possible values respectively.
- NPCs can escape at the east, west, and south stairs along the edges of the map; they move to escape via the closest one.
Strategy
| This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
It is highly recommended that you try to save theCivilians due tothe side chapter afterward giving access toAsbel and a plethora of great items. Try to focus on unlocking the bottom right room first so that you get your second thief,Lifis (if you recruited him inChapter 2x), and buying some time so that you can unlock all of the chests, most of which contains items confiscated fromLeif and Lifis from the previous chapter. You will have to share a singleLockpick betweenLara and Lifis until you get your second one, either by having it in Leif's or Lifis's inventory at the end of the previous chapter, or getting it from a chest at the end ofChapter 5. Remember that Leif, Lifis, and the newcomersFergus andKarin are all unarmed, and if they don't have a weapon they will be instantly captured. BothMachyua andBrighton have a reserve sword and a third is obtained in a chest. Lara, Lifis, and Karin are all mediocre at combat and can be used as capture bait to alleviate weapon shortages and help reduce enemy stats. Note that any unit on capture bait duty will have all of their items taken (except forpersonal weapons andCrusader Scrolls) which can constrain inventory space.
Every turn, more and moreSoldiers will spawn in one of the three corridors, so try to move as one squad. However, the west and east corridors also serve as escape points for the civilians; the soldiers that spawn from there can and will attempt tocapture any civilians heading there when possible. If the soldiers manage to escape with a civilian in tow, you will not meet the requirements to enter Chapter 4x and recruit Asbel. Again, it is recommended to stick together as one group since the narrow space of the corridors can make it tricky for a single or pair of units to finish off any soldiers that captured civilians. If needed, civilians are also treated as if they escaped if a player unit rescued them and that player unit escaped.
Be sure to prepare and gather your units together before unlocking the northern door, as there is a squad of enemy units waiting within the room, and you may need to either make a break for it and flee towards the exit point ASAP, or be forced to eliminate the enemies before leaving. If the player returns the civilian Jubel to the correct house inthe previous chapter, then Leif or Lifis can talk toDalsin to have him join their team. The most reliable method of recruiting him is to put Leif on the bottom-most tile of Dalsin's attack range (the left tile of the unlocked door) and give him a weak sword and a Crusader Scroll. The armored enemies are difficult to eliminate, with the most effective methods being magic swords, effective weapons, and reducing their stats by capture-baiting them.
This is the first chapter with an Escape objective. Unlike later entries in the series that feature said objective, Leif needs to be the last one to escape after his teammates have safely done so; any player units left behind after Leif escapes will be considered captured, and will not be available untilChapter 21x, where you can rescue them.
Note that if both of your Thieves (Lara and Lifis) are killed before they can unlock both Leif's cell and the northern door leading to the exit point, the chapter will be rendered unwinnable (unless aDoor Key can be obtained) since Leif needs to escape in order to complete the level, and the player will be forced to restart.
