| “ | I don't care. I don't trust either of you. I just wanted to tell you that to your face. | ” | — Takumi, toCorrin andAzura |
|---|
Takumi (Japanese:タクミTakumi) is a character inFire Emblem Fates. He is the second prince ofHoshido, and the younger step-brother of Corrin. Like all other Hoshidan andNohrian royalty, he possesses the power ofDragon Vein, being able to alter the terrain around oneself.
Biography
Takumi isCorrin's younger brother. WhenRinkah andKaze return Corrin to Hoshido, Takumi makes it very clear that he does not trust them, and believes them to be spying on them for Nohr. AfterMikoto's assassination, Takumi blames Corrin for bringingthe blade that killed her to Hoshido.
Birthright
If Corrin sides with Hoshido, Takumi andRyoma go missing shortly after they repelXander's troops. Corrin begins searching for him. Eventually, Corrin discovers Takumi, brainwashed by something, during the battle with the traitorousMokushu ninja clan.Azura returns him to his senses, and Takumi explains that the last thing he remembers is falling into theBottomless Canyon. He then joins Corrin's group.
When Takumi, with Corrin, meets theRainbow Sage, hisFujin Yumi lends its power to Corrin'sYato and turns it into the Noble Yato.
Later, repeated incidents of Nohrian forces having knowledge they should not possess lead Takumi to suspect there is a traitor in their group. At the capital of Nohr, the king's adviserIago appears and forces Takumi, whose brainwashing relapses, to take Azura hostage, revealing that Takumi was unknowingly the traitor and knowing their location each time. However, Takumi is able to overcome Iago and aid Corrin in killing him andGaron. After Garon's defeat, Ryoma is crowned as the king of Hoshido in a ceremony as Takumi and his siblings proudly watch on.
Conquest
If Corrin sides with Nohr, Takumi takes Corrin's choice the hardest, immediately denouncing them as a traitor. He and his siblings are driven back by Nohrian forces.
He is next encountered along with his retainersHinata andOboro during the journey toNotre Sagesse, and Corrin is forced to defend the port of Dia from his onslaught of troops.
After his defeat at Dia, Takumi heads alone to Cheve to support their rebellion against Nohr. When Corrin arrives to deal with the rebellion, he ominously proclaims that he believes killing them will cause "the pain in [his] head" to go away. Takumi vanishes after the battle.
Later, Takumi and his siblings attend the party inIzumo, arranged byIzana. Corrin and the Nohr siblings are also present, much to Takumi's distaste. Eventually it is discovered that the Nohrian illusionistZola is impersonating Izana to lure the Hoshidan royal family to their deaths. Corrin, refusing to violate Izumo's neutrality pact, kills Zola and his forces, freeing the Hoshidans, including Takumi. Takumi refuses to show any gratitude for this.

Takumi and his retainers guard the Great Wall of Suzanoh, a massive wall protecting Hoshido, Takumi and his forces are defeated regardless. After the battle Takumi, in a fit of rage and emanating a strange darkness, leaps from the wall. Corrin is unable to find Takumi's corpse after this and presumes he is still alive.
After the defeat of Garon in Mikoto's throne room, Takumi, now completely unhinged, suddenly appears and attacks Corrin and shatters the Yato.
Now on the brink of death, Corrin finds themselves in the afterlife, where they meet the spirits of Ryoma, Mikoto and the real Takumi, who explains that his soul is truly dead; the creature battling Corrin's companions is a puppet using his corpse, feeding off of Takumi's resentment. Takumi reconciles with Corrin and gives them the power of the Fujin Yumi, asking them to destroy his body and allow him true peace.
After Corrin defeats Takumi's reanimated corpse, they and Xander speculate as to what possessed him and Garon, but are unable to come to any conclusions.
Revelation
If Corrin sides with neither nation, Takumi and the other Hoshidan siblings are, like the Nohrian royals, quick to denounce Corrin and Azura as traitors and are forced to attack them. Prior to Chapter 10, Takumi travels toIzumo to consult with ArchdukeIzana about Corrin and Azura's supposed treachery, only for him and his retainers,Oboro andHinata, to be kidnapped by Nohrian troops that have overrun Izumo. Confined alongside Izana byZola, Takumi and his retainers are rescued by Corrin's army, along with Izana, following Zola's defeat. After Izana's death, Takumi decides to honor the archduke's dying wish by joining Corrin and Azura in their quest, bringing along his retainers. Takumi continues to fight alongside Corrin throughout their campaign in Valla, and eventually lends them the power of the Fujin Yumi to transform theAlpha Yato into the Omega Yato. In the aftermath, he resolves to maintain the newfound peace with Nohr.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Takumi is anArcher that joins in Chapter 10 of bothBirthright andRevelation. As a royal unit, he is capable of activatingDragon Veins. He has solid strength that is further complemented by his personal weapon and his skillset, allowing him to hit an impressive 35 attack at base, if initiating combat while supported with a proper unit. His high skill combined with his personal skill will also provide him with a respectable crit rate. His speed is also decent, though he has very low resistance, making him very weak to magic. Takumi additionally is held back by his lack of 1-range, making his enemy phase nearly non-existent, as with most archers. In general, Takumi is very good at eliminating key targets, like bosses, but is largely restricted to player phase action. If you have completed the DLC chapterEnd: Lost in the Waves, Takumi makes a beautiful recipient of thePoint Blank skill, which grants him 1-2 range with bows, removing this huge weakness.
Takumi starts with the skillsCompetitive,Skill +2, andQuick Draw. Competitive gives +10 crit, +3 attack, and -1 damage when supported by a same or higher level unit. If the player has many higher level units, they can allow Takumi to activate this skill frequently, where it also helps with training him. Skill +2 gives some extra accuracy, and Quick Draw gives +4 damage on player phase. His personal weapon,Fujin Yumi, is unique in that it allows him to cross terrain without any movement penalties. While he is still unable to cross terrain infantry normally can't cross, such as peaks, this still gives him very good mobility relative to other units, particularly inBirthright. Even if the player does not intend to train Takumi for combat, this mobility can allow him to ferry other units to key locations more quickly. Starting with a C rank in bows, he is immediately capable of using theKiller Bow andDual Yumi, granting him great burst damage and solid coverage of theweapon triangle respectively. Additionally, as he starts at level 11, he can be promoted immediately.
InBirthright, Takumi is in an interesting position. As an Archer, his niche is his high strength and ability to take down singular, powerful enemies. Early on, Takumi can contribute fairly well, as he is capable of OHKOing enemyNinjas in his join chapter, and can decimate the fliers in Chapter 11. However, as the path progresses, it primarily increases its difficulty through enemy quantity over enemy quality, favoring 1-2 range units with strong defensive capabilities, of which Takumi is lacking in both categories. As a result, Takumi will likely see less and less use as the path goes along, especially considering there are not very many enemies with stats high enough to justify his niche.
AsRevelation has far fewer, but noticeably bulkier enemies, Takumi's high single-target damage niche has much more use. Like inBirthright, he is capable of OHKOing Ninjas at base, and in general will likely have the strongest raw damage output the player has access to for quite some time. He also benefits from the path's greater objective variety as well, featuring fewer rout maps and more defeat the boss or seize chapters. The second half of the path in particular has several maps that can be completed swiftly by flying over much of the terrain, giving his access to Kinshi Knight more utility. In addition, his status as a royal has a greater impact, as the path features many Dragon Vein-based objectives, incentivizing using as many such units as possible.
His strengths are further amplified upon promotion, with bothSniper andKinshi Knight offering him a good boost to his speed. Sniper in particular doubles down on his offenses, sacrificing the mobility of a mount in favor of maximizing his damage, doubling ability, and crit rates. The skill access is also very useful.Certain Blow helps to maximize his accuracy on player phase, andBowfaire increases Fujin Yumi's damage. Kinshi Knight is also a solid option, as its flight combined with bow access give Takumi a great effective attack range which goes well with his raw power. Access tonaginata also provides him reliable 1-range options without the avoid penalty of theMini Bow. Though naginata provide weapon triangle advantage against red weapons, this may be less meaningful given he can already attain this through the Dual Yumi. Be wary, however, that the promotion to Kinshi Knight will actually reduce both his strength base and growth somewhat. The only true downside to Kinshi Knight for Takumi is that it renders Takumi's Fujin Yumi's innate acrobat ability almost entirely redundant given flying classes' natural ability to cross all terrain without issue with the sole exceptions being the tempests and tornadoes summoned through player-controlled Dragon Veins during exactly two chapters in Birthright only. Those are the times Takumi would require the Fujin Yumi's acrobat ability to move through said cyclones unimpeded as a Kinshi Knight, but this is an otherwise negligible factor in choosing a promotion. For skills, Kinshi getsAir Superiority for extra accuracy against flying units, which makes Takumi even better against them when considering the fact that bows deal effective damage against them, andAmaterasu gives allies some passive healing, which mitigates the need for having several healers on the map.
Takumi can reclass into theSpear Fighter class tree, which does have slightly better raw stats, as the only stat advantage Archer has is +1 skill, whereas Spear Fighter gives +1 strength, speed, defense, and resistance, though he'll end up starting at E lances. TheBrass Naginata in conjunction with the +1 strength reclassing is still slightly less damage than theBrass Yumi with his Archer strength base. Takumi can also gain 1-range attacking just as easily by promoting to Kinshi, instead of wasting valuable early gameHeart Seals, as earlyMaster Seals are more plentiful. Additionally, other units make better use of early Heart Seals, such asMozu gaining safer attacks through Archer,Jakob orFelicia turning into combat monsters withCorrin-paired classes,Azama using his better strength stat as anApothecary, orSetsuna gaining consistent 1-2 range shurikens in Ninja. It is worth mentioning that Takumi may want to reclass to the promoted classes ofSpear Master andBasara for their skill access, though it's best done after promoting, and when Heart Seals aren't so tight. Spear Master's main skill isLancefaire, giving Takumi +5 damage with a weapon type he can easily become proficient in with some training. Basara givesRend Heaven for a chance at extra damage, and Takumi has a base 28% chance to proc it with his base skill and Skill +2.Quixotic is another pretty useful skill, giving Takumi and the enemy +30 hit, and +15% to skill activation. Since bows are able to attack at range, this will generally negate the need to worry about the fact that the enemy gains +30 hit due to this skill. InBirthright, the +15% skill activation isn't too relevant since most generic enemies don't have any skills at all, and this bring Takumi's base procing of Rend Heaven to an impressive 43%.
Takumi'sFriendship Seal choices all give classes and skills that'll boost his performance.Hinata andRyoma giveSamurai, where it has pretty limited choices for good skills.Duelist's Blow andVantage aren't very useful on a bow-user. Takumi won't be getting counterattacked by most foes when using a bow, rendering Duelist's Blow terrible, and he won't be able to counterattack with most bows when being attacked at 1-range, making Vantage poor. Takumi's absurdly high skill base and growth makeAstra very powerful.Swordfaires damage boost is rarely useful long-term since the only class that can use swords and bows isBow Knight, which he can only get from a Corrin friendship or marriage when their talent is eitherMercenary orOutlaw.Master of Arms'sLife and Death is a great skill since Takumi will avoid counterattacks when fighting at range to avoid the +10 extra damage from enemies, making the skill mostly upside.Jakob givesTroubadour, which Takumi can't use well with his non-existent base magic, makingStrategist a poor option for a class.Butler can at least use shurikens to make gettingTomebreaker quite easy, which Takumi might want with his low resistance and weapon triangle disadvantage against them. Finally, as aRevelation exclusive,Leo gives TakumiDark Mage for another sub-optimal class tree.Dark Knight can net him access toLifetaker for a decently powerful skill. WhileHeartseeker is a great skill, Takumi can't use it as well since most bows attack at 2-range, where Heartseeker only activates at 1-range. The only bows that can make use of this skill are the Mini Bow, which can be a decent option, and theShining Bow, where Takumi's low magic stat makes using the bow very tricky.

Personality
Takumi is wary of others, and quick to be suspicious. Although he is slow to open up, he is extremely loyal to his close friends. Takumi handles betrayal very poorly, and constantly calls Nohr-aligned Corrin a traitor to their face. Takumi also has severe self-esteem issues; he compulsively compares himself to his siblings and son, and has expressed the belief that his siblings do not care about his well-being on at least two separate occasions.
ThroughoutConquest, his sanity continuously degrades as a result of his possession, and by the end of the game he has been reduced to a husk of his former self, completely obsessed with murdering Corrin and all Nohrians to exact revenge for their betrayal.Heroes expands upon his personality in this state; he typically cycles through episodes of confusion and bloodlust, but consistently displays his hatred towards Nohr. When Corrin, on the brink of death, encounters Takumi's sane spirit, however, Takumi is willing to reconcile with them and trust them to save him and restore peace to the world.

| Takumi, second prince of Hoshido, is here to share his greetings for the New Year, complete with a special celebratory outfit! | This kimono is considered traditional attire back in his kingdom of Hoshido. The white-and-red decorations in his hair are called shide, and they're supposed to ward off evil! | In his left hand, he's carrying kagami mochi, which are supposed to bring good fortune. But not for his foes, because he can whip out the round mochi inside and throw it like a dagger! | Hoshidan culture really is unique. I'd love to spend the New Year munching on mochi with all my friends! | ||||||||||

| Takumi is the second prince of Hoshido, and he's always been a little difficult to get along with. It seems that Anankos, the Silent Dragon, has taken control of Takumi's mind, and turned him into his pawn! | Takumi is famous for his skills as an archer, and even with Anankos in control, his aim is as sharp as ever. In fact, I get the impression it might have gotten sharper! | As Anankos's pawn, it's inevitable that Takumi will clash with Corrin, his own sibling. I just hope that one day, he and his siblings will be able to all get along together once again... | ||||||||||

| Takumi is the younger prince of Hoshido, and he's here for a summer vacation at the beach to ease some of his day-to-day stress! | I hear that his retainer Oboro picked out this fabulous swimsuit he's wearing. That bandage wrapped around his wrist makes him look very sporty! | For this outing, Takumi's bow and arrows are adorned appropriately with maritime motifs. His bow looks like a cresting wave, while the arrowheads look like cute little fish with fletchings resembling anemones! | Takumi says he's finding the tropical island stay motivating. He spent his time in the summer sun with a smile! | ||||||||||

| Takumi's joining the Day of Devotion festivities—and with some noble-looking attire to boot! | It's quite a departure from the fierce-looking warrior's outfit he usually wears, thanks to the elegant design that pairs a pale-green robe with an orange-colored sash! | He's also carrying a box that contains a colorful variety of nerikiri, a type of Hoshidan sweet. I can't wait to find out what they taste like! | It's rare to see Takumi smile much, but it sure looks like he's enjoying himself today! You know, I think getting the opportunity to see this side of him must be a Day of Devotion miracle! | ||||||||||
