Role

Surtr is the main antagonist of Book II. He is mentioned byLoki inParalogue 10 andParalogue 13, before being formally introduced inBook II, Chapter 1: Part 4. He is first fought duringChapter 2: Part 5, during which he is immune to all sorts of damage due to being equipped withMúspellflame and cannot be defeated. He appears during the ending ofChapter 3: Part 5, before being fought again inChapter 4: Part 5, where he appears as a reinforcement at the end of turn 3 and is once again equipped with Múspellflame, making him impossible to defeat. He reappears as the boss ofChapter 7: Part 5, once more being equipped with Múspellflame and unable to be defeated. Surtr appears in story sequences duringChapter 8 andChapter 10: Part 1, and is fought again as the boss ofChapter 10: Part 5, where he is able to be defeated for the first time. He makes a final appearance inChapter 13, appearing during story sequences inPart 1 andPart 3, before being fought and defeated inPart 5.

After his death, Surtr appears during the story ofXenologue 4 as a new soldier ofHel. A nightmare of him also appears as the boss ofBook IV, Chapter 5: Part 1.

Surtr: Ruler of Flame, the main version of Surtr and based on his appearance after being sent toHel,^[1] was first made available from November 21, 2018 – December 11, 2018 as part of theNew Heroes: Fire and Ice summoning event. Surtr is power-hungry, violent, and sadistic. He murderedFjorm's mother in front of her and later taunts her about it. He also launches an invasion ofAskr with no apparent purpose other than to destroy it. He is also willing to make temporary alliances to further his own ambitions, as hinted inpart 5 of chapter 3, where he reveals that, once Askr is destroyed, he plans to turn onVeronica and invadeEmbla.

Surtr is the king of Múspell, the Kingdom of Flame. With the blood of the Flame Dragon in his veins, he rules with an iron fist over a kingdom where might makes right.	To Surtr, the weak exist only to be subjugated. He's invaded rival kingdoms one after another, and seeing it as the right of the victor, he slaughters the populace before he leaves…	He doesn't just lash out at other kingdoms, either. Should any of his generals fail him, he'll see that they suffer the consequences—and not even his daughters can escape his wrath.
