If not for my Emblem I would have died powerless. Small. That Emblem had the strength to stand alone! Unlike you, huddled together, whining like dogs. Such a warrior showed me the meaning of all existence—fight alone, take revenge!
— Sombron

Sombron (Japanese:ソンブルSombre) is a character appearing inFire Emblem Engage. He is aFell Dragon who once dragged the continent ofElyos into a war against theDivine Dragons.

Biography

This section has been marked as astub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

In his youth, Sombron was banished from another world toElyos. He was accompanied by anEmblem that has since left him. Supposedly, he learned from that Emblem that solitude was the path to power, a lesson he took to heart.

A millennium before the events ofEngage, Sombron fought with theDivine Dragons, notablyLumera, in a bloody war. Sombron wished to conquer Elyos and move on to other worlds. Lumera states that Sombron wished to conquer these worlds as well, while Sombron instead claimed he wished to find his lost Emblem and return home, though it is possible these were ultimately the same goals in the end. He used his numerousFell Dragon children, that he deliberately bred for this purpose, as pawns of war. Despite his defeat, he injured Alear grievously as a result of their battle.

Even with his defeat,Elusia maintained a religious sect that held him as their patron god.

Personality

This section has been marked as astub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Sombron is generally subdued and evenly spoken. He has little regard for those around him, including his own spawn, which he consider to be fodder for war and naught else. Sombron considers bonds such as friendship and family to be symptoms of weakness. Contrary to this, one of his only goals is to reunite with hisEmblem, the Emblem of Foundations.

His production of children seems to have been entirely contractual, and he holds no affections-romantic or otherwise-for any of the mothers of his children. One ofZephia's motivations for serving was to have the chance of producing a child with him, which he seemed intent to fulfill as a transactional gesture, but otherwise he did not have a personal investment in the idea.

Quotes

Battle quotes

To die here was ever your destiny. The rings are mine.
— Sombron as an enemy in thePrologue.
You fought so hard, traveled so far, merely to die?
— Sombron's first form inChapter 26.
Sombron: You are pathetic. As if spurning me to be a Divine Dragon was not enough... Patricide? Unforgivable.
Alear: You killed your own children—tried to destroy the world—for your selfish desires. You're the one who is beyond forgiveness.
Sombron: I said your world meant nothing to me. Its people, my children...you. Once I leave, I will forget you. Even if we met again, I would not recall your face.
Alear: In other words, you'll make the same mistakes as before. So which of us is pathetic?

— Sombron's first form fightingAlear in Chapter 26.
Veyle: Papa...
Sombron: Oh, the defect. I thought myself rid of you, yet here you are.
Veyle: Heh.
Sombron: You laugh.
Veyle: You're angry because I persisted and survived. It almost feels like praise. We never spent time together as father and daughter, like I wanted. But I'm glad I didn't give up. I made it. Because now, I can be the one who defeats you.
Sombron: You are a malicious child. I would expect no less from my own.
Veyle: I hope you're watching, Mama. I'm going to stop him—just like you told me.

— Sombron's first form fightingVeyle in Chapter 26.
Nel: I did not expect to feel nostalgia in this moment. But your presence is exactly as I remember it.
Sombron: You seem familiar...
Nel: I am the daughter of another Sombron, in another world. If you know my face, then you merely recall a child who is dead. You and I are two Fell Dragons on opposing sides of a battle. Nothing more. And I mean to defend the Divine Dragon to my last breath. Prepare yourself!

— Sombron's first form fightingNel in Chapter 26.
Rafal: I have often wondered how it would feel to see my father's face again. Now I finally know.
Sombron: Surely you are not my child. No more of them remain.
Rafal: I am a Fell Dragon from another world. Our relation is theoretical at best. The Sombron of my world bade me commit terrible sins to become his successor. I brought that world to ruin. But perhaps I can redeem myself by kindling hope in this one. And when I defeat you, I will prove once and for all that I am greater than my father!

— Sombron's first form fightingRafal in Chapter 26.

Critical quotes

Pathetic defect!
— Sombron
I will dispose of you!
— Sombron

Defeat quotes

You have nothing to celebrate. You are weakness itself. You will never defeat me.
— Sombron's defeat quote in thePrologue.
Heh heh... This is not over.
— Sombron's first form inChapter 26.
Then...I will be denied...my reunion.
— Sombron's second form in Chapter 26.
