Sleuf (Japanese:スルーフSleuf) is a playablePriest inFire Emblem: Thracia 776.

Biography

Sleuf was a priest of theMunster District. Sometimes before the year 776, he went to visit theTower of Bragi, where he heard the voice of the late FatherClaud ofEdda, and saw a vision of princeLeif ofLeonster.[1][2] Back in the church he was in, he convinced generalAmalda ofFriege to help secure the children here. When bandits attacked the nearby village, he left the church under Amalda's protection and left to the Norden Line, which was saved thanks to the help of Leif's liberation army. While in Norden Line, Sleuf would meet Leif in person, and join him in his quest. Later, while under attack after the failed attack onUlster, Sleuf would meet back with Amalda, and convince her to join Leif.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Sleuf joins inchapter 16A and can recruitAmalda in chapter 19. He makes a poor combat unit because of his fragility - 1defense and 18HP at this stage of the game does not count for much, meaning he will easily die to physical fighters and is more liable to getfatigued easily. AnFCM of 0 does not help, and he cannot even use weapons before promoting. That said, thanks to his A-rank instaves, Sleuf can use any non-personal staff in the game, making for an excellent utility unit. With over 10skill, he does not face chances of missing when he uses staves, and his magic will usually be high enough tosilence orsleep an enemy. If it is insufficient, he can receive aPure Water or aMagic Up boost to bolster his magic and reach the required threshold. Aside from status and healing staves, Sleuf can also use supportive staves, likeWarp. As an extra benefit, he has threeaction stars, giving him a 15% chance to move again after he ends his turn. This is unreliable, but helpful for a staff user since it can allow Sleuf to use a strong staff twice in a single turn.

Sleuf's promotion toHigh Priest is among the worst promotions in the game. An E-rank inlight magic is hardly ever useful, considering Sleuf is not a good combat unit to begin with. And even if by some miracle he could perform competently as an offensive spellcaster (especially through the usage ofCrusader Scrolls), there is exactlyoneLightning tome for him to use (unless he grinds WEXP in theArena to useNosferatu) until thechapter 22 shop. The promotion's other bonuses are also pitiful - +3 Magic is the only remarkable benefit. Sleuf is still sometimes worth promoting since the +3 Magic helps him meet certain thresholds, and being able to equip a weapon means that enemies won't instantlycapture him and take his items, though he will compete with other High Priests for that one Lightning tome. That said, most other promotions inThracia 776 outshine his.

Despite a lackluster promotion and terrible combat, Sleuf is a useful unit. The mere fact he has an A-rank in staves makes him a great utility unit. Staff utility inThracia is valuable, with a massive number of applications. The game has a variety of obtainable staves, and Sleuf can use almost all of them with no investment.

Endings

Sleuf, Priest of Bragi
After the war, instead of returning to the Tower of Bragi, Sleuf traveled around the continent spreading the teachings of Edda. Sleuf inspired other priests to do the same, and the Edda Church eventually became one of the leading religions of the continent.
