Skrimir (Japanese:スクリミル,Skrimir) is the nephew and designated successor ofCaineghis, and a playable character inFire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Role

Skrimir appears as an unrecruitable NPC in thePart III, Prologue, in the southwest of the map, alongsideRanulf and their squad of cats and tigers. He will charge the Begnion soldiers and attempt to reach the arrival point. The goal of the chapter is for Skrimir to reach the arrival point, and as such his death is a Game Over. Skrimir next appears as an unrecruitable NPC in thePart III, Endgame, in the west of the map, again accompanied by some cats and tigers. He will move and attack enemies for the duration of the map, and his death is no longer a Game Over.

Skrimir joins at the end of the Part III, Endgame and is forced into the Silver Army. He is force-deployed in both thePrologue andChapter 3.

Analysis

Skrimir is alion laguz unit who becomes playable starting from Part IV (and was an NPC fortwochapters in Part III) and is forced onto Micaiah's team. His base stats are excellent all around, with most of his unshifted stats except magic and resistance being double digits, becoming high 20s to 30s when shifted. In particular, his defense base is high enough that he will outright receive zero damage if hit. His resistance, however, is extremely low, worsening his weakness against fire magic, like other beast tribe laguz.

Skrimir starts with theProvoke skill. It is situational at best, and detrimental at worst. Even though he can one round many enemies with relative ease while shifted, the same cannot be said for his unshifted state, who can die from a few good hits. His transformation gauge will also deplete faster due to most enemies targeting him. He also has innate Resolve, though his durability is high enough to prevent his HP from falling into range of triggering the skill, and is generally overkill when it does activate. His high weight can allow him to useSmite effectively.Quickclaw can give him a minor 2-range counterattack, though it is unreliable, and Skrimir (while shifted) is mostly dodgy enough to not allow him to get hit in the first place despite having decent enough speed to proc it. With his high speed, Skrimir can make versatile use ofAdept.

Unfortunately, the two maps he is force-deployed in during Act 4 is usually all that he will see use for. BothCaineghis andGiffca crush Skirmir in every stat. Even if Skirmir is trained up, his Speed caps 3 (6 when shifted) points lower than both Caineghis and Giffca, leaving him with a dubious 34 Speed that can't double anything notable. Use Skirmir while you have him, and send him to the bench once you get to the tower.

Skrimir has a fire affinity which gives attack and accuracy, both of which are rather overkill, but still appreciated nonetheless.

Personality

When he is introduced, Skrimir is extremely reckless and bloodthirsty. He has little patience for higher planning, only cares about glorious battle, and believes that the beorc armies of Begnion will face him in honorable combat instead of making good use of their advantages. As the war progresses, he grows as an individual and leader. He comes to appreciate the wisdom of the beorc, and in particular develops a deep respect for the Branded tacticianSoren. After the war, he becomes a much-beloved king of Gallia.

• According toTellius Recollection, Skrimir was designed with an apparent age of 25.^[1]
• In the Japanese text, Skrimir calls Caineghis "叔父貴", meaning that Caineghis is the younger brother of one of Skrimir's parents.^[2]
