Sitri Eisner (pronounced /ˈsɪtɹi ˈaiznɚ/[key]; Japanese:シトリー=アイスナーSitri Eisner) is a non-playable character mentioned inFire Emblem: Three Houses. She was a nun inGarreg Mach Monastery,Jeralt's wife, andByleth's mother.

Biography

In Imperial Year 1139,[1] Sitri was created by Rhea in Garreg Mach Monastery as her twelfth attempt at reincarnating her mother,Sothis, in a new vessel. For this purpose, Rhea had inserted Sothis'sCrest Stone in her heart, hoping she would be able to manifest Sothis's consciousness, although this never came to pass. Sitri was born a frail woman; she never traveled outside the monastery and only spoke to a select few individuals. During her time in the monastery, she became friends withAelfric andJeralt, the latter of whom she fell in love with. In 1159, Sitri and Jeralt bore a child together namedByleth. During the child's birth, however, the child was born without showing any signs of life and Sitri's life was put in grave danger as well. The nun then begged Rhea to save her child in exchange for her own life by extracting her Crest Stone and putting it in Byleth's chest, a request the Archbishop ultimately accepted.[2] Afterwards, Sitri perished in Rhea's arms and was buried soon after, causing both Aelfric and Jeralt a lot of turmoil.

InCindered Shadows, it is revealed that Sitri's body was actually hidden deep withinAbyss as Rhea couldn't deal with the idea of having her pristine body—likely caused due to her creation giving her a connection to the Goddess Sothis[3]—being buried. During the sidestory, it is also revealed Aelfric found it sometime after as well, and silently prepared to revive her with theChalice of Beginnings so he would be able to give Sitri the life he believes was denied to her, as her weak constitution kept her from leaving Garreg Mach. However, as the chalice is unable to bring the fallen back to life, the ritual—which came to pass in 1180—went wrong and Aelfric and Sitri's bodies ended up getting fused together, creating theUmbral Beast which eventually had to be put down by Byleth and theAshen Wolves.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Role

Sitri is an NPC mentioned in the game during Part I (all routes) and Part II (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind and Crimson Flower). She's called by name in theCindered Shadows DLC, and her body is fused with Aelfric's in order to create the Umbral Beast.

Personality

Sitri was a kind person, known for her fondness of books and flowers. Just like Byleth, Sitri had difficulty expressing emotions, only showing them to Jeralt as their relationship grew closer.[4] Sitri also showed a strong maternal instinct, prioritizing saving her child's life over her own.

A young woman I created... my twelfth try after much heartache... was a failure. She grew up lacking the conscience of the progenitor god and fell in love with the captain of the Knights of Seiros. In time, she became pregnant... but she and the child were not able to survive the birth. The child she bore was not breathing, and she herself was in grave danger. The new mother pleaded with me to take the Crest Stone of the progenitor god from her own body and place it within the baby. If I had done nothing, both mother and child would have died.
