| “ | You honestly don't remember? It's me, Silas! We were best friends as children. | ” | — Silas, toCorrin |
|---|
Silas (Japanese:サイラスSilas) is a character inFire Emblem Fates. He is acavalier fromNohr, who knewCorrin for a short time in their childhood. Silas accompaniesCorrin regardless of their decision.
Biography
Silas is a fledgling Knight of the Kingdom of Nohr and child of a Nohrian noble family, having known Corrin since childhood and considers them his best friend. One day, Silas decided to bring Corrin out of the Northern Fortress on a picnic. However, he was caught by the guards and was nearly executed if not for Corrin's strong opposition. Instead, he was banished from the fortress, but he never forgot his friend. Silas decided to enlist in the Nohrian army, knowing that it was the best way to meet his friend again.
Birthright
Silas first appears inChapter 7, leading an assault on Fort Jinya on orders from KingGaron. He is shocked to find Corrin leading the defense of the fort, but continues his attack despite this.
Ultimately, Silas and the Nohrians' attack is repelled. Defeated by Corrin, he states that he is ready to be executed, but Corrin refuses, wondering how the two know each other. Silas explained about their childhood together until his banishment. Corrin vaguely remembers him, but nonetheless decides to spare him and Silas decides to follow his best friend and joins the Hoshidan army and helps Corrin settle an age-old conflict shared between Hoshido and Nohr.
Conquest
Silas first appears inChapter 7, helping Corrin on their trial with Elise through the Woods of the Forlorn onXander's orders. Silas subsequently aids Corrin's effort to put an end to the age-old conflict shared between Hoshido and Nohr.
Revelation
Unlike the first two routes, Silas does not appear until later inChapter 14, where like inBirthright, he was ordered by Garon to kill Corrin, but when crossing blades, Silas could not bring himself to kill his best friend and Corrin notices his hesitation. After the battle, after telling their childhood story of their picnic, Corrin suddenly remembers Silas. Needing all the help they can get, Corrin asks Silas to join their cause which he gladly accepts and helps Corrin to put an end toAnankos' machinations.

Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Silas is aCavalier, and one of the few units that is available in all three routes ofFates; he joins in Chapter 7 of bothBirthright andConquest, and Chapter 14 ofRevelation. His base stats vary significantly between each path, though generally speaking, his stats and growth rates are straightforward and balanced, with his growths emphasizing strength and skill in particular. Although his combat capabilities can be somewhat inconsistent, his mounted status brings with it valuable utility; he may reach key points quickly or ferry other units to them, for instance. It also lets him easily position himself for Dual Strikes, which he can leverage well to score ORKOs he might not otherwise achieve. However, Silas's below-average speed keeps him from reliably doubling for quite some time at base, though his combination of good strength and the skillElbow Room allows him to deal high enough damage to at least 2RKO a good number of enemies. At level 10, he will learnShelter, a useful skill that will allow him to perform similarRescue-drop strategies that were possible in earlier games. It can also allow for more risky strategies withAzura, as she could sing for someone in attack range, then be protected by Silas's solid defenses.Vow of Friendship is an interesting personal skill that greatly boosts both his offense and defense, though it is limited in its utility, as it requiresCorrin to be below a specific HP threshold; if Corrin has not been reclassed, they can use theDragonstone to raise their bulk and also chip enemies for the rest of your units, which pairs well with Vow of Friendship.
InBirthright, Silas is the only Cavalier available outside of reclassing; this additionally makes him the only unit capable of performing Shelter strategies early. This allows him to help clear chapters with boss-killing objectives early, as he can leverage his high mobility to ferry stronger units to bosses that can kill them in few turns, althoughBirthright's flying units render this strategy less useful. He starts with a C in swords and D in lances, granting him immediate access toJavelins and useful swords such as theDual Katana. His high raw attack with the Steel Sword also allows him to OHKO frailer enemies early on. His earlygame performance in general is solid, being readily capable of eliminating enemies by taking advantage of Dual Strikes. If Silas is left in his base class, his combat will likely falter as the game goes on and enemy density becomes greater and greater, necessitating reliable 1–2 range that Silas lacks, but additional classes can fix this problem. Either way, Silas can always offer his mounted utility alongside good pair-up bonuses for frontline units, including a point of movement.
InConquest, despite joining at the same level, he comes with lower weapon levels than he does inBirthright, denying him use of the Javelin and utility swords at base. Despite this, he remains useful early on, as he is able to take good advantage of his movement to help withConquest's more varied objective types. InChapter 8, he can more easily reach the villages before reinforcements can be called from them, and has the bulk to survive a few physical blows on his way. His ability to take advantage of Dual Strikes may also prove quite helpful inChapter 10, as he may clean up more enemies by effectively extending the player phase of strong units such asEffie andCamilla. Movement in general is highly valuable inConquest, as it features many main and side objectives that incentivize moving fast. Silas's lategame performance will likely falter, as his stats will not allow him to ORKO enemies; he can secure a strong midgame by promoting into Paladin early on, however. As the game progresses, he may find more use in a supportive capacity, rather than handling combat.
Revelation is easily Silas's strongest outing. Here, he comes with massively increased stats; although his speed and luck are below average, every other relevant stat is substantially above his averages. His capped dual B-rank weapon levels mean he can immediately use theSilver Sword obtained in his join chapter, giving him some of the highest raw damage output at base of any unit inRevelation aside from the royals. It also allows him to use nearly any utility weapon he might want, such as theArmorslayer orSpear. Moreover, as he starts at level 18, he can immediately be promoted; with a promotion and a singleArms Scroll, should the player be willing to spend one on him, Silas will already be capable of wielding theBrave Sword andBrave Lance, which greatly help mitigate his lower speed and allow him to ORKO many enemies; however, said weapons will only become available around Chapter 21, meaning Silas may naturally accrue the weapon experience to wield Brave weapons by then. Although he joins late compared to his other outings,Revelation Silas is a reliable combat unit that is useful right out of the gate and will likely stay useful through the rest of the story.
Silas will typically want to promote toPaladin instead ofGreat Knight for its enhanced mobility. In addition, its better speed bonus along with the skillDefender will allow Silas to hit doubling thresholds more reliably. He will also learnAegis to potentially increase his survivability against certain weapons, although it is unreliable. WhileGreat Knight might seem like a good option to obtainLuna, Luna's proc rate is similarly unreliable to Aegis, which could expose Silas or any allies near him to more enemies. However, he could also wait for a later reclass to obtain the more universally usefulArmored Blow, which gives him more player-phase tanking power.
Silas's reclass tree,Mercenary, provides several interesting options. It is not typically worth switching to completely, but its promotions and skills can be quite useful.Strong Riposte in particular boosts his damage even further on enemy phase, andSol is a decentoffensive skill that can greatly improve his survivability; the reliability issues of both Aegis and Luna also apply here, however.Bow Knight can be a worthwhile alternative to Paladin, as it is faster and has more reliable ranged options in the form of bows, which provide him an advantage against enemy fliers. InConquest, Bow Knight'sShurikenbreaker is worth serious consideration due to the extremely dangerous dagger units with theInevitable End skill inChapter 25 andthe Endgame.Hero also learnsAxebreaker, which may be helpful to more safely fight the plethora ofBerserkers, as well asHans inChapter 26 andGaron inChapter 27.
Silas is additionally effective at supporting others, as he offers generally usefulPair Up bonuses, in strength and both defenses, as well as movement later on. In addition, Cavalier is a valuable class line, making his status as one even more valuable, as it means he can pass it to other units via supports. Ryoma in particular can make great use of this class line, particularly inBirthright, as it provides him with more mobility and bulk, the only two areas in which Ryoma is noticeably lacking. Silas also likes Ryoma's speed pair-ups, making this combination quite a natural fit. In return, Silas receives theSamurai class tree; as eitherSwordmaster orMaster of Arms, or Samurai directly, Silas will obtainDuelist's Blow andVantage. Duelist's Blow grants him extra player-phase Avoid, althoughBirthright's enemy phase-focused gameplay makes this less useful. Vantage allows Silas to strike first when his HP is at 50% or lower, which elevates his utility for enemy-phase combat.Swordfaire is worth considering on Silas, as he'll be using swords often in his main classes.Life and Death is another damage-boosting skill, although it poses a risk by giving his enemies the same damage boost. Silas also stands to gain from an A+ support with Kaze; while Kaze does not improve Silas's speed as much as Ryoma does, he is available for several more chapters than Ryoma. Kaze will grant Silas access to theNinja class tree; this would have him exchange his mobility in favor of giving him reliable 1–2 range along with a superior base and growth in speed, which may further improve his combat.Master Ninja is worth considering on Silas inBirthright; if paired with Sol from Hero, he may become a reliable enemy-phase tank, especially when he has an ally assisting him in Guard Stance. If Silas is in Guard Stance and doubles his opponent, he gets four attacks in for every one he takes, meaning he only needs a modest 25 Skill in order to be able to heal off enemy damage reliably. If the player adds Elbow Room and Strong Riposte for more damage, his combat prowess compares favorably toRyoma, trading some of the latter's damage output and ease of use for much better durability.
