Shifting History/Script
Five months have passed since the attempt onEdelgard's life. Edelgard andClaude formally negotiate an end to hostilities betweenAdrestia andLeicester. Claude and the Alliance join Edelgard in their military campaign againstFaerghus and theChurch of Seiros. Leaving DukeHolst to hold the eastern border in case of any further attacks from theAlmyran princeShahid, the Alliance is to send troops to the eastern front and invade the Kingdom by sea. Meanwhile, the Empire is to set out from Arianrhod to subjugate the western Kingdom.Hubert explains thatDimitri has purged most of the nobles likely to bend the knee to Adrestia, forcing them to use military force to bring the region under control.
As the Empire approaches the lands of Baron Mateus, the Kingdom forces ride to meet them along withJeralt,Byleth, and their mercenaries. Jeralt gifts Byletha sword he once used during his time as aKnight of Seiros. The Empire and Kingdom meet in battle, and the Kingdom is routed and their commanderRodrigue is slain. IfShez successfully kills Rodrigue without incapacitating Byleth, Jeralt orders his mercenaries to surrender and laments that his reputation is most likely shot due to his repeated failures against the Empire. However, Edelgard offers to hire them, and Jeralt accepts. If Shez incapacitates Byleth, Jeralt attacks the Empire after Rodrigue's death in order to finish his mission, but Shez kills him. Byleth attacks the Imperial troops and killsRandolph before being driven off by Shez, Edelgard, and Hubert. Afterwards, Byleth leaves Jeralt's Mercenaries inAlois' hands and gives control of their body toSothis so that she can exact revenge on Shez.

Strategy
| This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
If you wish to recruitByleth andJeralt, make sure to fulfil the following conditions:
- You need theResonant Lightning strategy to bait outAlois with his reinforcements.
- Seize the strongholds surroundingBaron Mateus without entering his stronghold or killing him.
- Rescue the Sorcery Engineers before seizing all the northwestern strongholds. Once the engineers are rescued, activate Resonant Lightning to lure out Alois and his soldiers.
- Seize the northwestern strongholds. Afterward,Rodrigue will tell Byleth to advance to the recently seized strongholds now that Alois will protect him.
- Advance to Alois. Baron Mateus will destroy the bridge connecting an enemy stronghold to prove his loyalty to the Empire, the one Byleth recently crossed, and they will not be able to protect Rodrigue.
- Defeat Alois, and then defeat Rodrigue quickly. Byleth will advance to your position, and if they manage to reach you before Rodrigue is defeated, their recruitment is failed.
Recruting Byleth and Jeralt will make the following changes to the story and gameplay:
- Leonie will be available for recruitment duringChapter 12.
- Two additional chapters are added before the final chapter.
- The main mission of Chapter 14 is changed.
- The alternate version ofChapter 14 and the exclusiveInto the Chasm are the only way to obtain theScroll of Talos andAymr.
