TheSea Dragon (Japanese:かいりゅうSea Dragon) is aclass and subspecies ofdragon that has never made an official appearance in theFire Emblem series. While data for the Sea Dragon class is present inFire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, it is never used, and the Sea Dragon is not present in any form in any other installment. Graphically, the only remnants are its map animations. Its moving map sprite resembles a sea serpent in appearance, while its battle sprite is the same as aFire Dragon. It can move freely in seas, similarly toPirates.

As it is a dragon class, it may have been intended to be usable as amanakete transformation; however, no transformationstone that would allow for such a transformation survives in the game's code, though a leftover name string in the game's debug menu, the "Sea Dragonstone" (Japanese:かいりゅうせきSea Dragonstone),[1] suggests there was one in development at some point. Nobreath weapon, existing or otherwise, is known to be associated with the class; however, it can use any breath that is cheated into its inventory.

While not coded into the game, a Sea Dragon boss, known as Neptune (Japanese:ネプチューンNeptune), was planned to be featured inFire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. It was supposed to attack with tornadoes rather than breath, and its attack animation was intended to have it conjure a spell with its hands.[2] The Sea Dragon's remaining map sprite data seems to depict it attacking with tornadoes while moving its hands.

Trivia

  • TheDagon, a dragon class appearing inFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, may be a modern incarnation of, or at least inspired by, this unused concept. Dagons are sea-dwelling dragons that make use of water-based breath attacks.
