Saleh (Japanese:サレフSaleh) is asage who appears inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is the protector of the Great DragonMyrrh, the teacher ofEwan, and a friend ofGerik.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Role
Saleh first appears inChapter 5 briefly, askingEirika if she has seen a girl with indigo hair. She declines, and he leaves. Later, inA New Journey, afterChapter 8,Myrrh mentions Saleh's name, stating that they went to investigate an evil force coming from the direction ofGrado.
Eirika's route
InChapter 10,Ewan mentions Saleh when talking about an overland route toRausten. Innes recognizes the name from theFrelian spy network, describing him as a master of magic who fights offmonsters. Eirika decides to travel toCaer Pelyn and this teacher.
Next, inChapter 11, after the battle is over, Ewan finds Saleh at his house. Eirika recognizes him from Serafew, and he agrees to help her army across the mountains to the village of Caer Pelyn.
InChapter 12, he helps Eirika fight off monsters at Caer Pelyn. Ewan is cornered in a house, hiding from arevenant; either Saleh or Eirika finds him there. After the battle, he leads the group toDara, the elder of Caer Pelyn. She explains the tale of the Great Dragon to Eirika. When Eirika mentions that she has seenMyrrh, the Great Dragon, with Ephraim, Dara tells Saleh that he must find her. With a common goal and the same route, Saleh joins Eirika. They set out to Jehanna.
Ephraim's route
Saleh appears inChapter 12, talking to Ewan, who seems to be looking forMarisa. Saleh states that he has been unable to find the Great Dragon, and heads back to the village. He warns Ewan not to be reckless with magic.
InChapter 15, Ephraim arrives atJehanna Hall to help Eirika. In the beginning of the battle, she exits the castle along with Saleh andInnes. Saleh is determined to fight for Myrrh. Analysis
| This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
InEirika's route, Saleh joins in Chapter 12 as a level 1Sage. InEphraim's route, Saleh joins in Chapter 15 as a level 4 Sage. His base stats and weapon ranks are all incredibly good, making Saleh a valuable unit.
Saleh's base level performance is especially impressive in Eirika's route since he joins earlier there. However, he is still good in Ephraim's route. Saleh has an A-rank in anima magic and a B-rank in light magic at base level, letting him use many weapons. The more notable tomes he can use includePurge, a great long-range option for taking down monsters from afar. Saleh can also use simpler combat tomes likeElfire to great effect. His offensive stats (magic and speed) are so good he doubles and one-rounds most enemies with no investment.
Saleh's durability is quite good as well, especially for a magical unit. He can take two hits from most enemies, sometimes even three hits. Since he has perpetual 1-2 range thanks to being a magic user, he can kill entire swaths of enemies on the enemy phase without any trouble. Because magic is accurate and Saleh's skill is high, low hit rates will never be an issue for Saleh, either.
Saleh's other selling point is his base C-rank in staves. He can useMend andHeal staves to restore the HP of other units, but he can also useBarrier andRestore staves for utility. Since it requires no investment, Saleh can be deployed and help the player without ever gaining levels. Getting Saleh to A-rank staves is not difficult if the player focuses on it. Once he reaches B-rank, he can usePhysic, and at A-rank, he can use theWarp staff. This allows Saleh to contribute toThe Sacred Stones late-game chapters, which are notorious for their difficult terrain.
Saleh joins three chapters later in Ephraim's route, making it more difficult to raise his staff rank and improve his utility. However, his base performance is still good there. Regardless of the route, Saleh is a good combat unit AND a good utility unit, making him one of the better performers inThe Sacred Stones. While he shines more in Eirika's route, he is still helpful in Ephraim's.

Personality
Saleh is a very calm, kind, and peaceful character. He is very dedicated to his cause, to protect the Great Dragon, which is his life's mission.[1] He is very wise and skilled in magic, qualified as Ewan's teacher. Sometimes he can be stern or scolding; Ewan had originally been intimidated by him as a teacher.[2] He practices some sort of traditional religion or meditation called "Valega", which seems to involve great harmony and contemplation, even meditating on the battlefield.[3] He is sage and at peace, a mentor that many look up to.
Saleh lives in the mountain village ofCaer Pelyn, taking care of the elderDara and aiming to protectMyrrh, the Great Dragon. He had taken inEwan as a student a few years ago, when he had gone to visitGerik.[4] He sees Ewan as a troublesome, but potentially successful and very sweet student. He and Gerik seem to be good friends; however, Saleh still feels regret over killing Gerik's friend Zabba long ago. However, Gerik forgives him for this.[5]

Endings
Saleh, the Well of Wisdom
Saleh returned to Caer Pelyn, where he remained a faithful servant of the Manakete. His days were not spent in isolation, though. Many of the friends he met during the War of the Stones came to visit his village.
Eirika and Saleh
After the war, Eirika and Saleh returned to their respective homes. Eirika visited Caer Pelyn when she could. Eventually, she left Renais in the care of her brother and wed Saleh. Their daughter resembles the legendary Nada Kuya.
Saleh and Myrrh
Myrrh returned to Darkling Woods, but at Saleh's request, she eventually moved to Caer Pelyn. In time, the townsfolk learned to treat her not as the Great Dragon but rather as a normal girl, and she was happy.
Saleh and Ewan
Master and student returned to Caer Pelyn to study in peace. Ewan worked hard, and in time, his power grew to rival Saleh's. As equals, the two continued their studies together and expanded their knowledge ever more.

Trivia
- In theleaked prototype ofFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, dialogue said by Saleh implies thatMorva originally was going to travel alongside Myrrh on her journey to Grado, instead of remaining inDarkling Woods.[6] Saleh states that he is looking for "a father and daughter", in the final release he instead says he is searching for a lone, indigo-haired girl.
