Sakura (Japanese:白夜王女サクラWhite Night Princess Sakura) is the twenty-second chapter of theConquest campaign inFire Emblem Fates. In this chapter,Corrin and their army arrive at Fort Jinya in order to claim it in the name ofNohr, and must fight PrincessSakura to do so.

Plot

Corrin and their army arrive at Fort Jinya, the keystone ofHoshido's defenses said to be impregnable.Azura and Corrin realize they will have to fight against the Hoshidan royals soon, but both are steadfast in their plan. Inside Fort Jinya,Yukimura urges Sakura flee, but she refuses; Yukimura eventually relents as long as she is granted additional protection. The battle then begins.

Once the battle is over,Xander announces to the Hoshidan army that Fort Jinya has been seized, and gives them the opportunity to surrender; Sakura is upset by her failure to defend the fort, but Yukimura comforts her. Yukimura is willing to surrender on the condition that Sakura is spared, which Xander accepts. Xander orders the Hoshidans be restrained without harm, butHans begins killing the unarmed Hoshidans. When Corrin and Xander attempt to stop Hans, they are interrupted byIago, who also kills the Hoshidans. They begin threatening Iago, butGaron arrives and states that Hans and Iago are acting on his orders and threatens to kill Corrin and Xander if they try to stop them. Yukimura and Sakura curse out Nohr's actions. With Fort Jinya seized, Garon is pleased that Hoshido is practically conquered, prompting silence from Corrin.

Summary

Corrin's group nears the Hoshidan capital, but they must first conquer Fort Jinya. The real challenge will not come in the form of a battle, however.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

In case you couldn't tell from the new music, you're in the home stretch. At this point, your squad should effectively be finalized. This map is divided into two distinct halves, with your forces being unable to regroup until the very end. The left half contains lots of Oni Chieftains and Blacksmiths, so your best mages should go that way to counter them. Meanwhile, the right half has lots of Onmyojis with support from some Automata and Falcon Knights, so Kaze and your archers should go that way. You can fairly safely and easily clear out the enemies that come before Hana and Subaki. The first real hurdle is dealing with Sakura's retainers. Fortunately, the far left side of the map has a single Oni Chieftain behind a breakable wall. Kill him, then snipe that one Blacksmith dumb enough to leave himself exposed to attack from that flank. This will cause Hana's entire squad to aggro at minimal risk to you and your units. Subaki's squad is a bit trickier. He has left no safe method of approach, so the best way to handle him is to gather up your right team near the levee separating the two of you. Someone on the left team should trip the Dragon Vein that destroys said levee, allowing you to bum-rush Subaki and his three goons.

Once Subaki's down, you can pick off the central Mechanist and remove that headache. Your next goal is to trip the Dragon Vein near Subaki's position so you can dispose of the northwestern Oni Chieftain. The real trouble begins once you attack the paired Mechanists. This triggers a ton of enemy reinforcements from the northern corners of the map and from the areas you previously cleared. Put units on the forts where Hana and Subaki started off and hold on to them for dear life; if the Mechanists and Falcon Knights are allowed to spawn from them, you'll be caught in a pincer and crushed like a grape. Once you clear out these guys, the battle is won. Sakura is barely any threat without her staves, and any halfway decent swordsman can take her out. Yukimura isn't much more dangerous against a solid Wyvern Lord or Malig Knight, but his Spendthrift ability needs to be taken into consideration on enemy phase. If you want his Gold Bar for your own coffers, you'll need to ensure he never gets to attack on his turn.
