Rion Shield

TheRion Shield (Japanese:リオン家の盾Lyon Family's Shield) is an accessoryitem in the shield category ofequipment that debuted inFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It is the target of the sub-quest "Taken Treasure: Desaix's Vault", where it has been taken from its owner, Lord Rion, byDesaix and sold toGrieth. Returning it to Lord Rion inZofia Castle earns the player aPegasus Cheese and 300renown. Alternatively, the player may keep it and use it in battle, where it offers modest boosts to both defenses and attack, as well as morecombat arts than ordinary shields.
History
The Rion Shield is a family heirloom belonging to House Rion, one of the oldest noble houses inZofia. It was originally a gift to the family fromQueen Zofia I.[1] In the year 401, the currentLord Rion surrendered it toDesaix at his demand during the latter's coup d'etat.[1] Desaix then sold the shield off toGrieth.[2] Lord Rion commissionedAlm and theDeliverance to retrieve the shield from Desaix since he knew they were about to march on his fortress, but he did not know that by that point the shield was being held in Grieth'sDesert Stronghold.

Trivia
- The Rion Shield can also be presented to Lord Fugue inZofia Harbor if the player does not have theFugue Shield. The Fugue and Rion houses are enemies, so doing this will enrage Lord Fugue.[3]
- Since the Rion Shield is found onCelica's route, completing the sub-quest requires that the player either send it to Alm using one of the traveling merchants or wait untilAct 6.
- Like the Fugue Shield, the Rion Shield is a recoloredSilver Shield with a different pattern.
