Riev (Japanese:アーヴIrv) is a character inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He was once abishop ofRausten, butPontifexMansel exiled him for worshiping theDemon King. Riev then traveled toGrado, where he quickly became one of the army's Imperial Generals. He appears as a boss twice near the end of the game, but can be recruited as a special character in theCreature Campaign mode.

Creature Campaign analysis

While most of the post-game characters are generally superfluous relative to the main campaign army, Riev stands out as a fantastic unit that can make going through the Lagdou Ruins far more comfortable. While his base magic is low,Slayer combined with the fact that all enemies are monster units means he always hits for effective damage, essentially buffing his attack power to absurd levels. In addition, he also has outstanding bulk, surpassing that ofallotherpossible Bishops in the player's army, which allows him to tank attacks in ways the others could only hope to. He starts with S Light, giving him S rank bonuses immediately, and A staves which allows him to use all but Latona, including Warp. Ivaldi is not recommended since its 2x multiplier overrides Slayer's 3x multiplier. His only true weakness is his middling constitution, which can make using the heavier Light tomes very difficult. Even then, he still has enough for plenty of dodging and following up, and more than a few enemies are very slow.

Riev is one of the characters added to the game in theCalling of Blood update, and was made available to players in the sixty-thirdGrand Hero Battle, which initially ran from January 8, 2022 with no end date announced. Only one variation of Riev is currently available inHeroes, based on hisThe Sacred Stones incarnation.

Riev: Blood Beryl
Aiming to exert control over all of Magvel, the Grado Empire embarked on a conquest of the neighboring nations. Which leads me to Riev—a priest known as the Blood Beryl who works in the shadows as one of the empire's six generals!	With his cunning, Riev served as an advisor to Lyon, the imperial prince. He contributed his knowledge of the dark arts to help break the seal on the Demon King!	Riev was once a bishop of Rausten, but after he was banished by Mansel, the pontifex, he sought revenge by aiding Grado in its attempts to revive the Demon King.	Riev is extremely intelligent and well versed in magic, and it's a shame that he wasted his potential on petty revenge. I hope we can encourage him to use his talents in a more constructive way now that he's with the Order of Heroes!

Trivia

• In the international versions of the game, Riev's stats do not change between Chapter 19 and Chapter 20 (with the exception of Difficult mode). In the Japanese version, due to an oversight, Riev gains 25 autolevels (or 35 in Hard Mode) in Chapter 20, resulting in him capping multiple stats and having an extremely high HP stat.
• In the Official Nintendo Power Guidebook forThe Sacred Stones, Riev's base stats are mistakenly listed as those from the Japanese version of the game instead of the Western version.^[1]
