| “ | The throne of Grannvale shall be mine, one way or another. I'll leave no pest who dares interfere with me alive... | ” | — Reptor |

Reptor (Japanese:レプトールReptor) was the Duke ofGrannvale's HouseFriege and the Chancellor of Grannvale as a whole. Fearing the rise of PrinceKurth and his advisors as a prominent figure in the Grannvale political arena, he conspired with DukeLombard ofDozel to seize power over the country for themselves,[1] framingByron andSigurd ofChalphy for crimes of treason against Kurth and Grannvale as a whole.
Biography
Reptor remained behind in Grannvale during the war withIsaach in Grann 757, continuing to serve as Chancellor while working with Lombard andArvis on the first seeds of their plan, sowing rumors of plots by Byron and Sigurd to usurp the throne while they were absent at war in Isaach andAgustria respectively.[2] Late in the war, he arranged for Isaach's KingMananan to be assassinated, in order to prolong the war by preventing Mananan from sharing the reality of theDahna assault with Kurth and to anger the Isaach people into further conflict.[3] The power bloc headed by Reptor seized control of the Grannvale royal court during this time,[4] allowing Reptor to successfully frame Sigurd and Byron for Kurth's assassination at the hands of Lombard.[5] Shortly afterward, he and Lombard led an army toAgustria to capture Sigurd, following the latter's conquest of the country, but Sigurd eluded their capture by escaping toSilesse.[6]
Later in Grann 760, when the armies of Dozel and Velthomer set out to arrest Sigurd in Silesse, Reptor remained behind in Grannvale to maintain order, leading a Friege army to supportAida at Velthomer Castle, the last line of defense against Sigurd's army. Upon receiving word of Lombard's defeat at Lubeck, Reptor objected to Arvis apparently lying to him by claiming that their thinly-spread armies would be enough to take Sigurd, but reluctantly accepted his reassurances and returned to his post outside Velthomer with GeneralAida.[7] While suspicious of Arvis's intent, Reptor set it aside and proceeded as planned,[8] until Aida gave the order for the Velthomer army to turn on the Friege forces.[9] Overwhelmed by both Sigurd's and Aida's armies, Reptor was killed in battle.

Role
Reptor is the boss ofFriege inChapter 5. When he is defeated, all Friege units are routed; as Velthomer will turn neutral at the start of their next turn, if they have not done so already, this prevents the player from suffering any further casualties or aGame Over until Sigurd seizes Velthomer or talks to Aida to clear the map, unless the player deliberately attacks the Velthomer army on the same turn Reptor is defeated.

Personality
Reptor highly valued political power, seeing it as the ultimate means of progressing in life and an absence thereof as a sign of weakness which ensures a certain doom for those without.[10] His actions in seeking to claim Grannvale for himself were entirely motivated by feeling his own power and prestige among Grannvale's nobility was threatened by the rise of Kurth and Byron, and that eliminating them would secure his ongoing place in the world.[1] His greed for power made him easy for Arvis andManfroy to manipulate,[11] and yet while he was paranoid of being betrayed by Arvis, he nonetheless resigned himself to taking Arvis on face value with no other recourse,[8] only for his suspicions to be confirmed in the end.[12]

Consider this a lesson in politics and power! Your father had no power, and hence he is dead! Even a common knight such as yourself can surely appreciate this fundamental truth! Trivia
- According toFire Emblem: Treasure, Reptor had an unidentified fourth child, who was born between Bloom and Tailtiu as his second child. This child presumably died before the events ofGenealogy of the Holy War, as on the family tree, their entry (defined as "unknown") is scratched out.[13]

Sigurd: What?! That's absurd! Who in the world could've started such nonsense...
Filat: Chancellor Reptor and Duke Lombard.
Sigurd: I see... I should have known, knowing their disdain for my father. Yet, to take that grudge so far..

- ↑"Sigurd: Surely, shouldn't Reptor, Lombard, and the others who opposed the prince be the likely culprits?
Claud: I am of the same mind, but we've no evidence tying either to the crime. - ↑"Annand: Lord Sigurd, I presume? I am Annand, a knight in the service of Silesse. Queen Lahna bade my corps and I to come and retrieve you. We invite you and your subordinates to retreat with us to Silesse, until your good name has been cleared in Grannvale.
Sigurd: ...Queen Lahna of Silesse, you say? Why is Silesse willing to give aid to an alleged traitor like me?
Annand: Please, sir. Time is of the essence. The Grannvale assault is sure to begin at any moment now. My pegasus knights will escort you across the sea to safety in Silesse." —Annand andSigurd at the ending ofChapter 3,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑"Arvis: I see. Duke Lombard fell in battle...
Reptor: A-Arvis! What are we supposed to do now?! It was you who insisted that, even if we left the bulk of our armies on conquests with our sons, Sigurd would pose no threat to me at all! The situation before us is not the outcome you promised me!
Arvis: Reptor, your overreaction is baseless. The deck is still stacked in our favor. The Velthomer army is already lying in wait for the rebels in the Aed Desert's depths. Furthermore, Thracian sellswords should be arriving to reinforce us at any moment. The enemy will assuredly be exhausted. So long as my army and yours cooperate, Sigurd and his rebels ought to fall with ease.
Reptor: I'm holding you to your word this time, Arvis. Remember, I've no objection to you alone claiming the throne once Azmur finally dies. But don't you dare forget your allies...
Arvis: Of course. Must I remind you? The instant the dust of this war settles, House Friege will be granted the Agustrian throne to govern. House Dozel, meanwhile, will be entrusted with the rule of Isaach. Rest assured, Reptor. I will honor your rights to these territories.
Reptor: Hrm... Very well. Then I, too, will fight with all I have..." — Reptor andArvis at the end of Sigurd's phase after Lubeck is seized inChapter 5,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑8.08.1"Aida: Lord Reptor, we're depending upon you.
Reptor: Of course. Even so... I cannot help but wonder if Arvis will honor his word. Perhaps... Perhaps we are nothing more than sacrifices to him.
Aida: Lord Arvis is hard at work making the final adjustments to the Velthomer battle plan. You've no need to worry, sire.
Reptor: Very well. I'll take you at your word, then." —Aida and Reptor after seizing Castle Phinora inChapter 5,Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War - ↑"Execute the plan.
