TheRecruit (Japanese:新人兵士Traineesoldier) is atrainee class, exclusive to a single character –Amelia – inFire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Described as young lance-wielding foot soldiers, freshly recruited into the army and new to fighting, the class in and of itself is rather weak and limited, but has the potential toclass change to a wider spectrum of classes and, being that it initially class changes into otherwise basic classes, gives its constituent units a greater amount of time to gain levels and stat increases.

Unlike normal classes, the Recruit'slevel cap is 10, whereupon they will stop gaining experience and will change class at the beginning of the next map'spreparations screen. After promoting, their level and promotion progression will act as normal for a basic class. By default, the Recruit has two promotion options,Cavalier orKnight, giving them access to three potential advanced classes depending on their chosen basic class:Paladin,Great Knight andGeneral.

After completing bothEirika andEphraim's game modes, Recruits gain a third promotion option: to stay as a Recruit after promotion, a state here denoted asRecruit (2). The Recruit (2) acts like a basic class and levels and promotes as normal; it has the option to either promote to Paladin, or to again stay as a Recruit. This last version of the Recruit, here denoted asRecruit (3), can still only use lances, but is compensated somewhat by possessing an innate 15% critical hit bonus.
