(Redirected fromRanking)

Rankings in theFire Emblem series come in two forms, but in general, they are a measure of how well the player and their units have performed. Player rankings were introduced inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, giving the player a grade at the end of the game, and they appeared in all games from then up to and includingThe Blazing Blade; such rankings also appear in a lesser form inThe Sacred Stones andPath of Radiance.Path of Radiance andRadiant Dawn feature a different ranking system where the player's units are ranked at the end of the game.

As a measure of the player

Upon completion ofGenealogy of the Holy War,Thracia 776,The Binding Blade andThe Blazing Blade, as well as after clearing either theTower of Valni orLagdou Ruins inThe Sacred Stones, the game will rank the player based on how they did throughout the game/dungeon. The former four use letter ranks, while the dungeon results are more basic as they simply display the current top records.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War was the first game in the series to rate the player's overall performance at the end of the game. It ranks the player on four criteria: tactics, experience, survival, and combat; ranks are awarded at the end of the game, and take into account performance across both generations.

  • Tactics measures the player's turn count, with higher ranks awarded for lower counts. Tactics will decrease to the next-lowest rank for every player-controlled castle destroyed by an enemy.
  • Experience measures the number of level ups the player's army gained, with greater numbers earning higher ranks. This is not the total of the player's units' levels, but the total levels they gained;Sigurd does not provide 5 levels towards this rank at base level, but 0.
  • Survival is the number of units dead or unrecruited at the end of the game, with higher ranks awarded for lower numbers. Mutually exclusive recruitments—such as the children and their substitutes, orIuchar andIucharba—and story-based deaths do not detract from the rank, nor will a unit revived with theValkyrie staff.
  • Combat is the rank of how many battle losses—i.e. player unit deaths—occurred, with lower numbers earning higher ranks. Losses are tracked through mid-chapter saves, but can be reset by restarting from the beginning of the chapter; failure in thearena does not add a loss, but revival through the Valkyrie staff will not restore any losses.

Extras

Two extra map battle scenes are unlocked in the opening demo, for each overall rank of E to A that the player has earned. Additionally, if an overall rank of A is achieved, an extra scene can be viewed in the Epilogue, which showsthe Crusaders' pedestal atDahna.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Unlike other games in the franchise,Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 grants only a single ranking at the end of the game, with only two criteria affect rankings: the total number of turns taken to complete the game, and the number of playable characters dead or unrecruited; playing in Paragon Mode does not affect rankings. Failing to recruit a character or a character's death will reduce the ending rank, but exceptions are made where two characters' recruitments are mutually exclusive—such as withOlwen andIlios, where the former must be dead or unrecruited to recruit the latter.

Thracia 776 was originally released in two forms: first through a Nintendo Power distribution event, and later as a proper cartridge. The cartridge release expanded on the rankings, adding ranks above AAA. Listed below are the requirements for the cartridge release; note that for Nintendo Power releases, the maximum rank is AAA, or AA without maximum recruitment, requiring that the game be completed in 249 turns or fewer for both.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

This section has been marked as astub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade's ranking system deviates fromThracia 776; it is more similar to that ofGenealogy of the Holy War, based on multiple criteria, though many of its criteria are different. The Binding Blade ranks its players on six aspects: tactics, the number of turns the player takes to beat the game; survival, the number of units that died; funds, the amount of gold and worth of items accrued; experience, the amount of experience gained; combat, the proportion of battles won; and power, the total levels in the player's army. The requirements for many ranks are based on the ending the player receives. Additionally, the player is ranked after beating aTrial Map.

Rank requirements

Survival and combat, unlike other ranks, do not change based on the player's ending or chapter progression. Higher ranks in survival require fewer units to die, and an A rank can only be attained if no units die at all; unlikeGenealogy of the Holy War's combat rank, unrecruited characters do not count against the survival rank, thoughThe Binding Blade has no way of reviving units asGenealogy does through theValkyrie staff. Higher ranks in combat require a higher ratio of battles—the individual bouts of fighting between two units in a chapter—to be won, though there is no direct penalty for losses; an A rank in combat requires at least 40% of all battles to be victories.

The funds, experience, and power ranks are based on the final chapter the player completes, and thus the final ranks are based on whether or not the player attained the best ending. Higher levels in each of these ranks require higher totals of whatever it measures. Funds measures the totalgold and half the worth of all items in the player's possession (items that cannot be sold are considered to be worth 0 gold). Experience is based on the gainedexperience of each unit in the player's army; distinct from experience is power, the total finallevel of every unit in the player's army—promoted units are considered 20 levels higher for this purpose. Experience and power differ in that experience measures what is gained under the player's control, while power is simply a measure of the level; for example, at the start of the game,Marcus accounts for 21 levels (level 1, +20 from being a promotedpaladin), but 0 experience.

The tactics rank is based on the number of turns the player takes to finish the game; higher ranks require lower turn counts. The player's total turn count is compared to the total of the rank requirements of each chapter the player attempted, and as such is highly variable. The tightest requirements for A rank require playing through the Ilia route and none of the side quest chapters, needing 505 turns or less; if the player accesses the good ending, their turn count for A rank cannot exceed 630 turns on the Ilia route or 645 on the Sacae route. Requirements are not set for E rank, and will be attained if the total turn count exceeds the D rank requirement.

The overall rank depends on the six individual ranks. The rank of each particular ranking corresponds to a point score, which is added to gether to get the overall rank. If every ranking is rated as A, the player will receive an overall rank of S on Normal Mode or SS on Hard Mode.

Upon completing a trial map, the player is ranked, similar to how they are in the main game. Trial maps have only three criteria: tactics, survival, and combat; each map has different range for the tactics ranking, but all five maps share the same range for survival and combat. The second and third maps aredefend maps with turn limits of 20; it is impossible to get lower than an A rank on the former in any capacity, though it is possible to get an E rank on the latter if the castle is seized by an enemy.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade features a ranking system similar toThe Binding Blade; players are rated on five criteria: tactics, survival, funds, experience, and combat—The Binding Blade's power ranking is absent.

  • Tactics ranks the player's turn count, granting higher ranks for lower counts.
    • Due to when the ranking is calculated, reaching the turn limit of adefend chapter will count as one turn more than the player controlled; for instance,Chapter 4 has a seven-turn limit, and will end after the seventh enemy phase—however, it will count as eight turns when calculating the ranks of both that chapter and the rest of Lyn's tale.
  • Survival ranks the number of recruited characters that die; like inThe Binding Blade and unlike its two predecessors, unrecruited characters do not detract from the ranking.
  • Funds ranks the player's "assets" ingold, with more gold earning higher ranks; the assets are calculated as the sum of the player's raw gold and the worth—the purchase price multiplied by the fraction of remaining uses, or twice the sale price—of all their items.
  • Experience ranks the amount ofexperience gained by all of the player's units, granting higher ranks for greater amounts.
  • Combat ranks the player's units' percentage of battles won out of battles participated in, with higher percentages earning higher ranks; there is no direct penalty for losses.
    • A unit's battle record—showing their battles, wins, and losses—is visible on their end card, and in their personal data after clearing the game once.

In addition to the ranks shown at the end of the game,The Blazing Blade calculates rankings after each chapter; these rankings contribute to thetactician's bonus, a mechanic relating toMark introduced inThe Blazing Blade.

The Blazing Blade is split into three tales—Lyn's, Eliwood's, and Hector's—and each tale has two difficulty modes; the game saves the rankings of each tale at each difficulty for a total of six sets of rankings. Lyn's tale has a unique set of rank requirements for its chapters, while Eliwood's and Hector's tales share rank requirements for chapters they share; the requirements are altered between Normal and Hard Modes, though Lyn's Hard Mode requirements are mostly the same as her Normal ones.

Rank requirements

The survival and combat rankings have constant requirements through chapters and tales; no units may die for 5-star survival, and units must win at least 40% of their battles for 5-star combat. The survival requirements are, however, different when evaluating individual chapters for tactician stars, in comparison to when evaluating the overall rank where they are slightly less restrictive.

The requirements for the tactics, experience, and funds rankings are each specific to the particular chapter. When calculating rankings for the tactician's bonus, these rankings are calculated based only on the chapter, but the requirement of each chapter played is added together to determine the overall rank. There existvalues specific to Hector mode, but possibly due to an oversight, the game always uses the values for Eliwood mode, and requirements of chapters exclusive to Hector's tale are all 0. As a result, accessing such chapters makes the requirements for the experience and funds rankings more lenient, while making those of the tactics rank more strict.

1-star tactics is earned by exceeding the 2-star turn count; 1-star experience or funds is earned by falling under the 2-star requirements.

Overall

The overall rank is calculated based on the five separate ranks, and can be seen in the Fortune-Tactician window duringpreparations; an overall rank is calculated for each chapter for the tactician's bonus. Each rank contributes a different amount to the overall rank (for instance, Tactics is worth over double the other Ranks).

The survival and combat rankings are not dependent on the chapters played, but the tactics, experience, and funds rankings are. To calculate the overall rank for those rankings, the requirements for each chapter are added up and compared against whatever metric they measure; for example, in Eliwood Normal Mode, playing none of the side quest chapters and Lloyd and Kenneth's chapters, 5-star tactics requires beating the game in 343 turns or less, 5-star experience requires at least 32,000 experience gained, and 5-star funds requires at least 780,960 gold in assets.

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem

Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem has three different rankings:

  • Speed ranks the player's turn count, with lower turn counts giving higher rankings.
  • Survival ranks the number of defeats (including those in Casual Mode), with 0 defeats resulting in an A rank.
  • Tactics ranks the number of characters recruited (excluding sixArchanea Saga-original characters), with full recruitment resulting in an A rank.

Survival01–45–89–1213 or more
Tactics7166–7061–6556–6055 or less

Speed rank calculation

The speed rank is based on the number of turns the player takes to finish the game. The number of turns taken on each chapter is regarded as half the reference number (rounded down) if less than that (e.g. turn counts less than 12 for Chapter 5 on Lunatic Mode are adjusted to 12). The player would receive an A rank if the total number of turns does not surpass the sum of the reference turn counts for the chapters played. For example, if the player has played every chapter on Normal Mode, the maximum total number of turns allowed to get an A rank is 455, though the bare total less than 456 does not always guarantee an A rank.

Fire Emblem Warriors

The spinoff gameFire Emblem Warriors also features a similar rankings screen at the end of each mission, giving a rank from B to S for each criteria (Clear Time, Enemies Defeated, and Damage Taken) and a overall rank from B to S with S Rank being achieved by earning an S Rank for each criteria. Achieving a higher rank will award the player with additionalgold at the end of the mission. Furthermore, at the end of the main story and at the end of eachHistory Mode maps, a screen featuring the highest ranks achieved for each missions currently completed will scroll down similarly to the ones featured in the 3DS games of the series.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

InFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, players are ranked at the end of each mission with the exception ofChapter 0. Rankings are based on the player's completion time, the amount of enemies their army defeated, and the amount of damage they took, with the exact requirements varying based on the specific mission. If the player manages to achieve an S rank in each of the three categories, they are awarded an overall S rank for the mission. A chapter's S rank requirements are displayed on thepreparations menu.

Achieving an S rank on a mission grants the player a special reward that cannot be obtained again upon repeat playthroughs of the same mission, even onNew Game+. The player may attempt to achieve an S rank as often as they want. S ranks can be achieved through theRecords Keeper, and the player will be granted the S rank reward if they achieve an S rank for the first time.

While rankings are kept track of for each difficulty separately, S rank rewards for a mission cannot be claimed again if the same mission is replayed using a different difficulty setting.

As a measure of the units

InMystery of the Emblem, the number of victories and number of defeats are shown in each unit's character ending.Genealogy of the Holy War does not have character endings, but shows the same numbers in a list.Thracia 776 shows them in the same banner asMystery of the Emblem, defeats include captures as well as deaths.

The Binding Blade,The Blazing Blade, andThe Sacred Stones show a unit's total number of fights, along with the number of victories and number of defeats. InThe Blazing Blade andThe Sacred Stones, these numbers will also be shown on a unit's profile in any playthrough after the first one.

InPath of Radiance andRadiant Dawn, these replaced the previous form of rankings as the main rankings: units are totalled at the end of the game based on how many wins they got (battles and defeats are not shown).

Shadow Dragon and later games returned to the numbers shown in character endings, but only battles and victories are counted.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

The rankings happen after the main credits. First, all units who were recruited and died are listed; then, all units are listed by how many battles they got in and won, in the event of any ties deferring to the unit who joined later. The top 5 are recognized separately from the rest of the list.
