TheRanger (Japanese:フォレストナイトForrestknight) is anadvanced mountedclass debuting inFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, which has experienced slightly varying roles across its three appearances in theFire Emblem series. In its original incarnation inGenealogy of the Holy War andThracia 776, it is the promoted version of theFree Knight, exclusively wieldsswords, and is a counterpart to its fellow weapon-specific advanced mounted classes:Bow Knight,Duke Knight andGreat Knight. InThracia 776, Rangers are forced todismount to enter buildings or participate in chapters set entirely indoors; unlike the Great or Duke Knights, they retain access to their usual weapon type while dismounted.

The second and most recent version of the Ranger is that ofThe Sacred Stones, in which it functions identically to the earlierNomadic Trooper and later incarnations of theHorseman andBow Knight: it wields both swords andBows, and is a class change option for both theArcher andMercenary.
